I just got a Compaq F700 laptop from someone on craigslist. It seems to work as expected, survives prime95 etc...

It originally came with vista (and indeed he gave me the recovery discs that would put it back if I wanted to)

But I'm trying to install Windows XP instead. I seem to have managed to get all other drivers installed. From googling apparently it's the audio and video drivers that most people have problems with.

Now all I have left is something called a coprocessor listed as unknown in device manager.

Edit: redacted, I fixed the volume and headphones issues.

Solution
Coprocessor - recommending deleting (with the Delete key) the entry and reboot.
Let the reboot allow Windows to redefine the device.
Most times this is all it takes for Windows to fix the problem.
