Hi Im new to the forums, and I did do some searching and didnt really find any answers to my question.

I have a Dell C521, which is about half the size of a regular computer, so Im looking for a graphic card that will fit my computer. I bought a GeForce 8500 GT (Fatal1ty edition) and a new 500watt power supply, sure it fits in the slot properly but my computer itself isnt wide enough. Dell's website provided 2 options for graphic card upgrade but Im looking for something a little more than that. Any suggestions would be great, Im sorry I even bought this computer!!

Ouch...tough situation! Would it be out of the question for you to buy a new case (they can be found for very cheap...20 USD)? Your best option may be to transfer all of your components into a new case! Remember also...heat is going to be an issue in these smaller cases. You don't want your video card shortening the lifespan of your other components, so it may be in your best interest to invest in a new case.

On the other hand, you will just have to look on the web for size specifications (if available) and measure the inside of your case if you want to work with what you've got.

To run one of the bigger better cards you will need a new case. The 280 watt (choke) PS should work fine with that card, I hope. Cooling is an issue too. Antec 900 is what I have, great for a solid air cooled rig.

If you dont like the 2 options dell gave you you only have two other options.
1. Buy a new case.
2. Leave the side panel off your dell case.

This is the best (only) option I've seen (if you can find it) without starting from scratch

your psu is fine for this, my old 305w has 22amps so your 280w should have the 18amps needed

New case sounds like the only logical option. You can get a nice one for $50.

Propriety mobo with propriety connections.
Not saying it can't be done but won't be easy if at all possible.
