Hi all.
Ok i got this very annoying problem with my sound setup. My soundcard is a "Soundblaster X-Fi Xtremegamer fatal1ty pro" and as mentioned my speakers are "Logitech Z5500".
My problem is, that i cant get Dolby Digital or DTS sound on it. I am using a digital coaxial cable and have of course enabled the digital I/O option. I been reading alot about my problem and it seems that I must set the "spdif" to "passthrough", so that the Z5500 will decode the signal. But this I cant do. The setting "spdif input setting" is set to "default" and the default box is greyed out, so I cant change it.
...is there any ace out there who know how to fix this?

Regards Valravn13.

I don't own X-FI but the Audigy 2 ZS, I believe it is capable of decoding Digital or DTS same with Z5500. Years ago when I called Creative and ask about passthrough, They told me that it only output 2 Channel Digital signal, mind you this is the old Audigy Platinum. So in order for me to get best of both I use the decoder from Audigy by going to Audigy HQ and change the setting to use internal decoder and then use the mini jack to connect to Z-5500 leaving Optical and SPDIF free for Playstation and other digital source to connect. On top of that the platinum version when plugin the headphone it will automatically shut the speaker output.

But to get DTS or Dolby Digital you must have a capable player like cyberlink PDVD deluxe and not OEM version. This alows you to select DTS signal. but you probably know that already.

Yeah... Your doing all the right stuff. Are you using the latest drivers and the latest version of Creative control panel? Enabling Passthrough was an issue in previous drivers but they fixed that issue. But for it to be Dolby Digital you have to have a source that supports it. If your watching a DVD then you have to enable it on your player.

I have an X-Fi platinum and Z5500.

Players that support it are WinDVD and Cyberlink. Typically you have to enable digital in the DVD player programs menu.

i have purchased the z5500 and i have the soundblaster xfi platnuim can you tell me how to get it working. when i do the sound test all speakers work right but the syb and the right rear are swapped. it comes up and says left front right front center left rear then muffled on right rear and then on sub it makes the sound noise in the right rear. I have all the latest drivers anyone know what i can do? during music playing and gaming the right rear dosnt make a sound but sub works right. Please help if you can.

I would assumed you're using Analog connection. Check your connection and make sure all plugs are in properly.

Check your audio property and put it on 5.1, do not use anything other than 5.1 and updated your driver too.

If problem persist then try reinstalling the drivers. And if that doesn't work then you may have a problem with your sound card.

my sound card is new i had it replaced. It still did the same thing tho. If i run test with z5500 it says its all ok and it comes out the right speakers. if i run it with the sound blaster platnuim software its all over the place coming out the wrong speakers. i saw that they had the problem with the audigy card just like this and they told them to use the pass through but mine wont do that or at least i havnt figured it out yet

check your manual on how to conect digital signal, however I think you need this unit: http://www.soundblaster.com/produc [...] oduct=1780

im hopeing you are on the right track i have the speaker system hooked up in the back of computer hooked directly to card not through the digital in put i have in the front panal. Should i hook up throuh the digital in front or just buy the item you showed me ? If you dont mind look at the platnuim thats what i have and see what you think thanks for all the help. the guy from sound blaster told me to open the thx console and set the speakers to the right channels but i have no thx console and when i search it for my card it comes up with nothing.

Check your manual if the front S/PDIF output carry more than 2 channels, I know the rear panel does.

However if you use the digital connection - you will only hear 2 channel when doing a self test and gaming with multi channel (matrix disabled on Z5500) - The Z5500 will not identify if it's 5.1 or 7.1 - only when DVD or DVD Audio with proper codec is played then the Z5500 will be able to recognize.

If your playing games 5.1 is only possible through analog terminals, unless Creative have fix their drivers.

I don't know why you're not getting the THX console but maybe the application did not install properly. Best way is to un-install and re-install the sound blaster programs.

Check Creative downloads if they have an un-installation software.

By the way, Z5500 works best if connected using analog signal with X-Fi sound cards.
