QX9650 and 790i

Hey

I have a small issue with my new computer

I have a XFX 790i Ultra motherboard and a brand new QX9650
Complete with Crosair TwinX 1600 7-7-7-20 1,8 v ram
and dual 9800GTX

Am currently running everything on standard with idle temp on 38 and on full load 49 i belive using Orthos!

So i ask you.
I disabled everything of the "useless features like" intel speedstep
And set manual fan speed to max

But am unsure about voltage and using the FBS

My dream is running my computer on

*8 Cpu clock muliplyer
1800 FBS
1600 Ram Manual set to 7-7-7-20-t1

Anyone managed this before?

The only thing i can say for sure is that i put the voltage ram to 1,8 v and manualy set the correct ram setup.

But am unsure of what voltage to use on my

FBS
nforce SSP
nForce MCP

I'd rather go for a 1600mhz fsb and higher multiplier, syncs up with the RAM which is supposed to offer a performance boost and is easier to achieve off lower volts. Anything your unsure of voltage wise I'd just leave on 'Auto'.

As far as features like SpeedStep go, sometimes it hinders OCing other times it doesn't. If it doesn't it helps save power and lower idle / low work temperatures.

Yes i have testet that before but it seems that my cpu and my ram AND FBS dont like beeing put on auto.

I get problems starting windows and booting bios.

So did anyone have the same configuration as me and ny tips for a stable system?

8x450MHz FSB puts your QX9650 at 3.6GHz. Unless you got a real BUM chip you need stock voltages(~1.3V max) for that.

I'm not sure about the 790i but it should run 400MHz FSB stock right?
That would make your FSB 1600MHz and you need 9x400MHz for 3.6GHz.

With overclocking every system is different so what might work for others could not work for you. There is no one setting to do it all for you. It's all trial and error. If you fry anything it's on you.

I would start with leaving everything at stock
FSB : 1333MHz
Memory : 1333MHz or whatever it defaults to.
and just raise the multiplier for the CPU to 10.5 or 11 and see what Vcore/CPU Voltage you need to be stable.

After you have the CPU stable at 3.67GHz (at a given Vcore/CPU Voltage) unlink FSB and Memory.
set FSB to 400MHz/1600MHz (QuadPumped)
And reduce the CPU multiplier to 9, leaving the Vcore the same as above.
Again I don't think you need to raise the FSB, nforce MCP or SPP voltages for 400MHz FSB but if you have to take it one notch at a time in every combination.

After you reach a stable 3.6GHz(9x400MHz).
Set your RAM to 1600MHz with the factory speced voltage and timings.
If it's not stable raise the voltage by upto 0.5V but not more.
If it's still not stable loosen timings upto 8-8-8-24-2T one setting at a time, while checking for stability with every combination.
