Managed to break one of the fins on my current stock HSF that came with AMD FX-62 an dnow my pc sounds like a harley davidson. Looking to buy a new HSF and fit it myself. Have Asus crosshair MB.

1) any HSF that is described as fitting AM2 will be okay for me?

2) there is existing thermal paste on the cpu, do I need to scrape it of before applying the new paste?

I am considering the Zalman CNPS9700 Super Aero Flower Coolers. I would like it to be as quiet as possible so any other recommendations would be welcome. My current system runs at around 55 degrees C with the stock HSF. I dont really OC or anything like that.

thanks for your help in advance

1. yes

2. yes

that cooler would be fine. I've been looking at the cooler master hyper 212. performs at the top end of tested coolers with very low noise for $40. just something to look at.

The coolermaster hyper 212 is a bit loud.

The Zerotherm Nirvana is supposedly the 2nd best cooler atm, beats the Tuniq tower. It's also cheap right now, $37 at newegg with mir.
