My first over clock. I got an e8400 chip and a gigabyte P35-DS3L motherboard. I am using a Thermaltake 120mm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 835106069.

According to core temp after about an hour of running prime95 my temp has maxed out at 70 on the txt document it says.

I have my bus speed set to 445. My bios says my voltage is 1.325 but CPU-Z says 1.264 to while running prime95.

Could I have used to much of the grease that came with the fan? Or is this normal?

Should I back it down to 400fbs and lower my voltage?

By the title of the post I thought you were going to post a picture ;)
You'd probably get better temps with AS5 or something similar. I'd only expect a temp of 55-60 degrees with your FSB and voltage.

70 Is a little high.
Absolutely to much thermal paste is bad.

Take the processor off, clean it with some Isopropyl alcohol also clean the heatsink..

Apply minimal thermal paste:

Also reduce your Voltage which you should have done anyway looking for a stable OC
AND/OR get a better HSF.

It's close to the thermal limit but not over it.
Recheck your heatsink is properly mounted to the CPU.

The voltages are within specification so no worries there.
The Vcore voltage is infact a bit low for a 4.0GHz E8400.
Make sure you have "Advanced -> Round Off Checking" enabled in Prime95.

Reducing FSB to 400MHz is up to you.

I have the same CPU and MoBo. The temp problem is well known just flash the bios and you will be fine.
