Hi

I have just set up my Q6600 @ 2.4ghz with a zalman 9700 cooler.........

My core temps under 100% load are;

Core 0: 58c
Core 1: 54c
Core 2: 52c
Core 3: 58c

I would understand if cores 0 and 1 differed from 2 and 3 but not with cores 0 and 3 running hotter than the other two.

Should i try and replace the thermal paste and re-set the heatsink????

If anyone has any ideas or suggestion I would appreciate them!!

(Tools used: Prime 95, Core Temp)

Thanks in advance

Angus

no your fine --those are normal temps (differneces)

its the location of temp probe and cpu work load

your temps are high (for 2.4ghz that is slightly high for that cooler) i would wait a few days for the tc to flow and cpu to seat

Thanks for your very quick reply!!

For anyone else who is reading this and wondering about the temps with a zalman 9700, I am using the NT version so the fan is controlled by the bios and only runs at 2000 rpm when underload as apposed to its full 2800rpm which it can if it got hotter....... I hope!! At idle it runs at 0rpm or 500rpm and keeps the Tcase temp below 35c

What motherboard and case do you have. I'm going to use that cooler when I build my rig next year. What temp do you enter as the target in the BIOS.

What speeds does the fan run at at Idle ??

Thanks

Tony

I have a thermaltake Tsunami Dream Case with a antec true power which controls the sysem fans, they never really go above 700rpm.

My MB is a GA-P35C-DS3R, I am unable to set a target temp, just a warning temp......... and after a bit of research and testing my mother board is using the standard voltage way of controlling the fan as the PMW technique doesnt seem to work very well on my MB (it spins the cpu fan at 2000rpm all the time, and i am currently trying to find out y)

At idle my Tcase(cpu temp reported by the bios) temp is 28c and the Tjunctions(core) temps are 38 38 36 34 and the cpu fan spins between 0rpm and 500rpm and is completely silent.

The zalman 9700 is an awesome cooler but the NT version seems to be a bit wasted on my MB, also on another note if u care more about performance (and money!) than looks then the Thermalright ultra 120 seems to be the best heatsink around.

Hope this helps

Gus

**edit - ambient temp = 29c **

It runs way too hot IMO.. My Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz runs below 40 with ambient of 24... And it used to run this temp at stock cooler!! Hardly leaves you room to overclock... You can maybe reseat and recheck the cooler as the mounting system might not have seated properly.. Also, check on the air flow around the cooler... Bundle up wires and remove stuff u dont need.. Hope this helps.. Lastly, MANUALLY set the voltage on the CPU... The auto settings tends to overjuice the quad!!

Mine is running at 3.2ghz 8x400 and the hottest core hit 47 after ten hours of small FFTs. Thats with the TR Ultima 120 ex
