I'm putting together a new system and when I power it on all the fans spin up and the mobo LEDs turn on but nothing is displayed to the monitor. I have a CM690 case which does not have a case speaker so I cant hear beeps. The LCD Poster constantly has CPU INIT on its screen. Any ideas?

Core System:
ASUS Maximus Formula X38
2x2GB GSkill DDR2 800
Q6600
8800gt
PC P&C quad silencer 750W

Ya. Did you plug the 12v 4/ or 8 pin power into the cpu power? That message is from the CPU not getting power.

Is the 4-pin power lug behind the top 2 USB ports plugged into the PSU?

If all is plugged in 4pin, 24 pin, fan connector, reseat the cpu. I dont think you can get it in wrong but who knows. Make sure the triangles are lined up, and reseat the thing. Try one stick of ram til you get windows installed.

I have tried both my 8pin and 4pin plugs. I have also just tried new ram from another computer and still nothing. The fact that the LCD poster doesnt get past the CPU INIT suggests to me that it is not POSTING at all. The manual lists CPU INIT as the first step in the POST procedure.

Each time you try something different you need to unplug the power supply so the bios can redetect stuff. Its a Asus feature.

Can I get your email I'm gonna have questions for you when we get you up and running. I'm looking to invest in that board and got some questions.

Reply to roadrunner197069

Hows it going? It could be a short in your case. If all else fails reassemble on a phonebook or something. "Not carpet" Try a CMOS reset and anytime you change hardware unplug power from wall to reset the board.

Reply to roadrunner197069

a little bit of progress.

Now the LCD poster gets to DET RAM

I have a single RAM stick from my other pc in there

the mobo is out of its case with just the one stick of ram the video card and the power supply plugged in

still nothing being displayed on the monitor

OMG WTF

I put a stick of my new ram back in and BAM it POSTED.

I wonder why it didn't work with my new RAM earlier.

Hopefully no more prblems for now.

Anyways thanks for the help guys.

@roadrunner feel free to email me I PMed you my email address.

Restet the cmos and unplug psu from wall is the heatpipe putting any stress on the 8 pin connector? Look on Asus form for the new error. I'll be back later to help more.

Ys great news. Do you got the standoffs installed in the case? Use the washers if you got them. Dont change nothing in bios until you get windows installed with one stick. Then when all is well we can add the other stick and overclock to let the monster out.

Hey have you got her running yet?

Reply to roadrunner197069

Sorry I had to go out for a bit. Im installing windows now.

Well hows she running? Which windows 32 64? Vista, XP? Have you overclocked her yet?

Reply to roadrunner197069

its vista 64

I got everything installed, but now there is a nagging issue with the keyboard. Pressing any key on the keyboard will freeze the active program. I went and tried with an old Dell keybaord and same thing. The dell keyboard is PS/2 my new logitech one is USB. My mouse works fine.

Reply to majorpain1588

Thats weird. I wonder if it is a vista 64 thing?

Reply to roadrunner197069

Did you overclock or are you running stock. Did it happen right after install or after some software or vista updates?

Reply to roadrunner197069

Its still at stock. It started I beleive after the vista updates or some driver install. I know it wasnt the video driver though.

Reply to majorpain1588

If you can use mouse you can do a system restore I believe. Unless it was disabled by default.

Reply to roadrunner197069

The restore seemed to do the trick. I can at least type now. Now its time to see which driver/update is causing the keyboard issue.

I am dieing to know how good the cpu level up works. I just found out I get 3,100 back for taxes. I see a asus maximus formula, and the cheaper quad penryn on the way, and possibly crossfire 3870s.

And dont you think a 47" monitor/tv would be nice to surf these forums?

Reply to roadrunner197069

Wow my new 22" LCD seems huge. A 47" is like half of my wall! Im going to do some mobo manual reading and get up to par on the ASUS bios and see what all its little features are. The CPU level up seems interesting. (Overclocking for newbs like me :)

Reply to majorpain1588

Ya it will allow you to one click over clock up to 3.5 but dont go max until you check temps. You can pick the qx6850 from the get go though I'm sure. Let me know, I cant sleep. I'm excited for you, and curious because I want that board bad.

Reply to roadrunner197069

Right now I'm turning my pc into a 100 Disk"less" DvD changer. Its pimp.

Reply to roadrunner197069

I better make sure it runs stable at stock speeds first. I gotta DL prime 95 and speed fan still. Hope my tuniq tower is seated properly.

Im going to run a prime 95 cycle here tonight. (Actually this morning for me) Ill give you a PM tomorrow and let you know how the system is going. Then I can start some moderate overclocking.
