Hello, first of all i want to say hi because I'm new to the forums. Second i would like to get anyone's opinion on a system I'm building and maybe some tips on what to expect from it compared to my old computer.

My old pc specs are.

Windows xp
1gig 2700pc ram
amd athlon 2500+
radeon9200se

New PC

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Windows XP
I have not decided on a video card.

Now first of all i know my current PC amd2500+ sucks but i got it when it was brand new and it did the job for me very well. All i do with my PC is play games such as hl2, wow, city of heroes, autoassult, city of villains and much more. My 2500+ has been able to play all these games but on low visual effects due to my obvious lack of computer power.

My real question is can i expect my new rig to be able to raise the bar to play newer end games. I heard from a lot of people that it will be capable of doing the job much better then my current rig. But i really cant find out much info about the amd x2 5000+ cpu. So i really don't know what to expect from it.

My last question was about my video card. I wanted a card that could play games like battlefield 2142 on a decent resolution and at dependable speeds. I have played battlefield 2142 on this computer 2500+amd it was very laggy with but on lower resolution was still doable with my old radeon9600pro. I was thinking about the geforce8600 but I'm hearing that it's really is not a good choice. I want a video card that is rather inexpensive but will be able to do the job on high performance games.

If u have already decided on AMD, I wont change your mind ;)  .. But I hear it overclocks better than most of AMD procs.. But, get the "black edition" And get an ATI card.. 3870 perhaps?? Then u would have the "SPYDER PLATFORM" [whatever that is ;) ] Hope this helps..

Newegg has the evga 8800 gts 320 meg for $230. It's a good bang for the buck video card.

I would reccomend getting the best vid card you can for your budget (that probably means 3850 or 3870 or 8800gt, DONT get the 8800 gts 320 if you can avoid it, 512 mb ram is really starting to get used well)

Personaly I think the 8600 series was a giant steamy turd. Ncix has 8800 GT 512 for $209. Can't beat that price with a stick.
