Well, this is my first post... I have been a Tom's Hardware fan for a while, but finally registered... Forgive me for being a newbie, but i just build the following machine:

Motherboard: ASUS PK5 Deluxe/WiFi
CPU: q6600 Quad G0
Ram: OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500/1066 Reaper HPC Edition 2x2gb
Video: 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition 512mb
Case: Antec P182 has three fans so its pretty cool inside...

Everything in the bios is set up Auto. EVerything is default... I have retail cooling on CPU and All i want to do is first of all make sure that the memory is running at its max factory settings (1066)... and possibly bring up the CPU Clock to 3.0ghz.

My question is the following..... Can I get to 3.0 on retail cooling? and How do I make sure that the ram is running at optimal speeds? I changed DRAM FREQ to 1066 in bios, and everyhting is fine, but FSB is on Auto.... However, when i run CPUZ and i go to memory, it says DRAM FREQ 533.4mhz, FSB:DRAM = 1:2. Shouldn't DRAM FREQ be higher? like 1066? Then on CPU Z i click on SPD tab, and in slot 1, it says max bandwidth pc2-6400 (400mhz)... Shouldn't it be 8500-1066?

Again, forgive my stupid questions, but i just want to take advantage of my hardware.

Please help! Thanks a bunch!

Ok, now how about my CPU... do you think i will have problems going up to 3.0ghz on retail cooling fan?

Depends on the CPU take it 20fsb at a time just make sure your memory straping is set properly and your temps are ok.

OK, so I go into the bios, and increase the FSB by 20 at a time... Two questions, what should i keep my temps under? (remember I have stock cooling) and how do I see the full clock speed (right now it says 1.6ghz ( i know this can be disabled in bios, but what is the option)?
