So ive gotten a chance to OC my CPU and GFX card

I got an e2180 and a 8800gt oc by gigabyte.

Ive been pushing my CPU and my 3dmark06 score has been making great strides.

stock everything my score was 8400 3dmarks

Cpu 2.0Ghz -> 3Ghz (10x300fsb)

score went to 11000

then i pushed gfx stock was 700/1700/900

and stable i got 770/1900/960

but heres the kicker, 3dmark score didnt go up at all. I got roughly the same 11000 marks.

Guessing my CPU is the bottleneck in my rig? any thoughts?

I have a E2180 and by Score is almost like a E8400 Stock when Overclock to 3.0Ghz.
you have 1200Mhz Bus. I dont thing BUS is the problem. but try to reach 1333Mhz in your Bus by OC. Be sure that CPU can go up to 3.7Ghz with the best Air coolling. so 3.4Ghz perhaps can be achive. Anyways i will but a 8800GT stock OEM (At half the price of a 9800GTX). if i get 11000point I am sure i will be happy. But since i dont have a cooler all i can achive is E2180 at stock speed 2.0Ghz and stock cooler. I thing i will buy a Q6600 and perhaps with a new fancooler go for the 3.0Mhz OC.
But i will test the system first. An no just the 3dMark. i mean everything to see if there is a good reason to spend 200Dolars in CPU upgrade.

check this page with the E2180 at 3600Mhz + 8800gts and compare to E6700 3.600Mhz going for 3dmark.
http://www.tech4pcs.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5562

10750 vs 11800 score E2180 3.6Ghz vs E6700 3.6Ghz.

So..... 11k is Goooood in your configuration. No need to spend money.
Since 8800GTS ~= 8800GT OC

I wonna know what happend with E2180 at 2.0Ghz can you tell me?
I really wonna know.
i will be in touch soon. Saludos Amigo!

check this one 2 at 3dmark test E2180 at 3.4Ghz and 3.6Ghz
1280*1024 and 1680*1050 test.
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/300571-my-3dmark06-e2180-3-7ghz-13k.html

I suggest you stick with what you have and enjoy the Ride!.
Wait a few year and dont upgrade anymore the PC until is really need it.

i7 has twice the power of a Q9xxx and benchmark score like 15k with a 9800gtx+.
so i suggest wait. and later buy a good CPU with and x2SLI on it.
Dont waste money on expensives PSU and new SLI GPUs.

I allready Buy a xfx 9800GT and i have an E2180.
in 3dMark06 at stock speed in all i get 7300points.
When OC the 9800GT to 700/1700/900 7700points.
E2180 at 2.2Ghz and 9800GT 660/16xx/900 8300points.
E2180 at 3.0Ghz and 9800GT 660/16xx/900 11300points.
Just wandering if OC to 3.4 with a cooler or just get the E6850 and endure the CPU life, so this computer can be use someday in LAN with some i8/DDR5/Sata3/SLIx2 on some new brand computer in the future..
My suggestion go for OC if you wonna kill some years of life on your CPU or go for E8400 and is the end of the history.
Q6600 in not recommend for a 8800GT (to much power if OC, but 8800GT still 8800GT).
I read a lot of review and I was allready speakting this problem with my CPU.
I just wonder if i am going to buy a cooler or a E6850 beacuse,
I can get the cooler for almost 80U$$ and "change/sell" my E2180+120U$$ for a E6850..
I born and live in Uruguay, so Prices are wear around here..Is your choice depending on the money you can spend.
Saludos a todos los petes que entiendan esto!!

Well, even though the cpu isn't the fastest, I think the gpu would be the bottleneck. The cpu oc had a large impact on the 3dmark because a 50% increase in ghz will add quite a bit to your cpu score. Overclocks on GPUs just don't get that significant.

The OC on the cpu probably won't have had nearly as much effect on actual gaming performance as it did on the benchmark figures.

Also, games rely a lot more on the GPU than the CPU.
