How dual core compares to pentium 4

I know this has probably been asked many times but I can't find the exact answer. How does a dual core cpu compare to a pentium 4 cpu. For example what dual core cpu would be equivalent to a P4 2.6ghz. I also would like to know what P4 cpu would be equal to a 2.2ghz dual core cpu.

Please don't just tell me to google this, I tried already and could not find exactly what I needed.

a core 2 duo would be much much faster, about 40% faster for clock, and its dual core so running a game wont be effected by back ground use.

Pentium D 945 is around the same performance of a ~E6300 (3400mhz vs 1866mhz)

Pentium D and Pentium Dual Core are two totally DIFFERENT products - nothing alike - one runs like an oven, the other barely generates any heat at all.

The Core 2 Duo beats any single core, as well as most dual core cpus (depending on model, the E6850 is the fastest Dual Core CPU) and gets close to AMD's quad cores, then theres the Intel Core 2 Quad's which are king at the moment - just think 2 x core 2 duo.

I'd say ONE of the C2D cores clocked at 1.2 to 1.3Ghz would compare with a 2.6Ghz P4, and it would require something along the lines of a 4.5Ghz P4 to compare to one of the cores of a C2D clocked at around 2.2-2.4Ghz or so.

@ OP:This is from the same ^above^ chart, I have selected the Core 2 Duo E4300 and the Pentium D 960. They run @ the same FSB speed, both use DDR2, both are dual core, and both are 65nm. The difference is the architecture efficiency and clock speed. The Pentium D clock speed is exactly double that of the Core 2 Duo. From 1800mhz to 3600mhz, you will see that the C2D is still superior. Really no contest between the two series of processors.

Yea it would appear it is more like take the Core 2 Duo and multiply it by 2x and then add 400 - 600mhz and you have a more comparable Pentium D.

Edit: Now that I think about it...it may be higher than that even. Some of those benchmarks really are NO comparison at all. 3Dmark06 CPU test is the closest one I spotted.
