Amazon are offering the Palit 8800GT Sonic 512MB cards £128, a price that is too good to miss. However, I have a Gigabyte GA8I945GZME-RH Mainboard where the manual states that it has a PCIe x16 slot but rated to x4.
Does anyone know if there will be an issue putting the 8800 on this board? Currently I have a 7600GS which locks up constantly during gameplay. I do enjoy the occasional game like Half Life, Call of Duty etc, but wouldn't class myself as a serious gamer. Should I look at something else other than an 8800?
I would say deffo look at 8800GT for the performance/price, and im not totally sure but if the x4 slot is all you have then i dunno if it would work.
Im also interested in all these new cards being advertised. How come they are so much cheaper? There are alot on pre-order at some very nice prices. Anyone want to clear that up?
Looks like I'm out of luck on this unless I change the M/B. It is PCIe x16....not PCIe 2.0 x16. So I must presume a no go. The Palit cards do seem to get good reviews so seem a worthwhile purchase.
It is the 2.0 architecture that bothers me more since my M/B is pre 2.0.
Amazon do tend to start somethings off with very good prices and then put them up later on. So the prices may be short lived.
It doesnt matter what version you have, they are all backwards compatible.. The 8800GT will work just fine, if you can find it at that price, get it.. You will not be disappointed.
Im interested in the card, but how reliable do you think it is? There is no image and no information. Otherwise it looks a good buy, especially the Palit 8800GT 512mb that is on offer (without "sonic" ) for £116
