Pny memory stick failure

My PNY 4G memory stick has stopped working. When inserted into a computer, a message pops up asking to insert a disk even though the memory stick is inserted. Is there any way to retrieve information from the memory stick if it is not being recognized as being inserted in a drive?

Did you try it on other usb ports?

or connect it on another computer and see if the same message is displayed or you can access the memory stick.

Or you may try it on any linux operating systems.They seem to have less problems with the memory stick.

Also if you can see the memory stick icon in the My Computer after connecting but still not able to access it try accessing it using cmd.exe from the start menu to access the information.
