Hey, here is my final 'draft' of the build I intend to make. I will be using it for photo/video editing. I also needed it to be under $700. Here is what I came up with:

Processor
E4500
$125
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] &Tpk=e4500

Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
$80 with rebate (thanks lunyone)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128059

Case
Antec Sonata III Mini-Tower w/ Earthwatts 500w Power Supply
$120
http://www.buy.com/prod/Antec-Sona [...] 59259.html
Just wondering, why is it called a minicase? Looks normal sized to me…

Ram
OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2
$50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227089

DVD Burner
LG Black 20X DVD+R
$25
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827136117

Graphics Card
Radeon hd 3850
$180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121100

PSU
Earthwatts 500w Power Supply
(Price included with case)

Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar 500gb 7200rpm SATA
$105

Do you guys have any suggestions for a cheaper graphics card? I don't think I need this one, I won't be gaming too much, just some CSS multi. please advise, trying to keep the price down.

other than that, how does it look? will everything play nicely with each other? (and yes, I do plan to overclock)

Presuming you are going to re-use your monitor/keyboard/mouse you should be fine with this setup.

I'd stick with that card, lower cards within a family tend to use main ram to help them render a large image (even if there is no 3d work to do) and there is no point in slowing down what is a fine machine. It should be fine as long as you aren't trying to render large super hi-resolution picts because then you're video card might run out of ram and start sharing with main memory anyway. But the slowdown won't be nearly as bad as if you had chosen a weaker video card.

Check this link for video cards. More often than not there are rebates on video cards so check newegg if you're in the states

Looks good :). The P35-DS3L is a great over clocker. Might want to get a better PSU like the Thermaltake PurePower 500W or Antec True Power Trio 650W.

Also you might want to look at the Antec 900. Its $80 after MIR.

You might also want to get a round IDE cables (improves air flow ~$3) or a SATA DVD burner.

Here is a SATA DVD Burner:

costs $5 more but its wort it.

Hey, thanks for pointing that out, shadow. I actually thought it was a SATA DVD burner, I must have forgot to check. If I change the power supply, I can't get this sonata III combo anymore. If buying the psu separately, would you still reccomend the same case?

Ok thanks, k-crush, I will stick with this card, and I saw that link g-paw, this card is highly touted

One other thing, I might need an OS. I have an unused Dell OS, but I might not be able to use it on this build, I hear.

If you were in the market for a cheap os (like win xp, that's what I have now), and you wanted to do what I want to do with the computer, which would you get?
There's home edition, proffessional, office, etc. then there is builders edition, retail edition. which should I choose? keep in mind, price has to be extremely low

thanks

OEM XP Home $90

you should get a sata burner and drive because 1. sata is easier and smaller 2. ds3l only has 1 ide port 3. sata is same price
