Hi,
Until I can save my pennies to get one of the Huge Expensive Displays that
many on this list consider an absolute requirement to enjoy HDTV, I would
like to use my RCA 27" TV as a HDTV display.
I first tried a Firewire connection from my HTPC to my laptop as its ATI
display chip will also drive a TV. The results were very poor and not
acceptable.
After trying about three dozen programs to convert HDTV transport streams to
something that I could burn onto a DVD, I finally found one that worked.
The resulting DVD's when played on my Panasonic player with a "S-Video"
connection to the TV produce a great picture.
Not as spectacular as the HDTV display on my fine pitch Sony 19" Monitor. I
wonder if any HDTV display can match it. I have so far NOT seen any huge
displays that are anywhere close to the extremely sharp pictures produced.
The TV display produced is very acceptable until I gather a ton of pennies.
I started to look for VGA to NTSC converters and found a few, mostly $100
and up. I really would like to try one before spending any money.
Then I discovered the following post which I had saved as an Emergency text
only save. IE after SP2 refuses to save many (most) web pages now for me.

"Xesdeeni" is shown on the Doom9 site as an "advanced" user which may be
where this posting came from. He has made many posts there.
I tried to search the Doom9 site but this time when I clicked on "search" I
was sent to a "Goggle" page which made me "Ga Ga".
I got NO results for any of the key words I tried, and I tried a lot.
I am hopeful that someone here can confirm "Xesdeeni"'s posting and help me
find the necessary information quickly.
I would rather spend my time writing a check for a completed unit (Best) or
if need be putting a board into a box with connectors, PS and so on.
The best confirmation would be a link to the datasheet for the "TeraLogic's
Janus 8VSB decoder"

The MyHD cards output only component video, VGA, or DVI, so if you need
S-Video or composite, you're out of luck.
But, they do support 480i (standard NTSC) over all the outputs, so if
you have any of those on your TV, it will work.
