Hi there,

This doesn't happen very frequently and it has only happened to me while playing flight simulator x but everynow and then, the monitor will go completely blank and then say no signal detected (light goes from green to orange). The game sound will continue to run but a full system restart it needed. turning the monitor on and off does nothing. I'm really confused and hoping its not a hardware thing.

any help appreciated

Have you tried reinstalling drivers and see if there are any patches or updates for flight simulator.

I haven't tried reinstalling them but the latest ones were installed on christmas day. I'll check for flight sim updates but I don't think there are any. thanks

i have the same problem. although it wasnt on flight simulator.

was playing HL2 and my screen froze and the sound looped for about 7 seconds, then my dell monitor would go black and go into the powersave state. a few seconds later (my sound still looping) my monitor would wake up when i shook the mouse/pressed a key.

try waiting a few seconds and then shake the mouse to wake up your monitor. your game should have continued to run and all should be well :D

although if its the problem i have, it becomes more frequent and eventually leads to a crash at the deskop.

System Spec:

  • Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz) @ 3.6GHz v5.125
  • Memory: 4096MB DDR2 PC2 5400 RAM (OC'd @ 800MHz)
  • Video Card: BFG 8800GTS 640MB OC'ed (630Mhz core, 2.0GHz RAM)
  • Monitor: Dell E228WFP 22" TFT (1650x1050)
  • Operating System: Vista Ultimate Edition 32Bit

i beleive its either due to an overclocked GPU or your drivers are dying

I've been having the same problem with Xvid and a lot of games ever since I installed SP1 RC2 for Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Ok well thanks but I seem to have sorted it. Changed a few things at the same time so I don't know exactly what fixed it.

For those of you still struggling, here is what I changed:

1) I reinstalled 169.25 drivers
2) I updated FSX to the latest service pack 2
3) I changed my primary boot device under graphics in BIOS to PCI instead of PCI-E. I know its a bit random, but I remembered it was originally on that, even though the 8800gtx is techinically PCI-E 16 not PCI.

Not sure if any of these will help you guys but personally I think it was a dodgy driver issue. try reinstalling them as pchoi04.

Good luck. I bet mine will crash again as soon as I've said its been fixed!

I'm having exactly the same problem with my 8800GT and FSX. Have you had any more problems since your last post? What do you recommend to fix it?
