I've finished my build, but there is a couple of strange things happening...

My Hard Disk (250GB Western Digital Caviar SE16 SATA II) is only showing in Windows (XP Home) and Everest as 127mb (not 250).

The second one is that Everest shows three temp measures for my CPU (Core 2 Duo E6750). It shows a main temp of 17c (63f), Core 1 as 30c (86f) and core 2 as 27c (81f).

Even the main temp of 17c (63f) seems high to me. It's not under any major load, just surfing and dl a torrent.

I'm using the stock cooler with all my system at stock. The rest of my kit is below. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks guys.

1 x Gainward GeForce Bliss 8800GT 512MB PCI-E DVI x 2
1 x Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12) +Aluminium heat spreader
1 x Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 1333FSB LGA775 4MB cache Retail inc.Fan
1 x 250GB Western Digital Caviar SE16 SATA II 300 7200rpm 16MB cache Hard Disk Drive oem
1 x Asus Motherboard P5K Intel P35 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo PCI-E Heat Pipe ATX

I've also got my old IDE 60gb HD and DVD burner connected up. Power supply is a ColorSit 550w.

Main temp... Mobo temp? 17c is not bad for a northbridge temp. Would be fine even through 35c

CPU of ~ 30c = not to bad at all. Start worrying at high 50's (celcius)

Not sure why the WD drive is coming up that short. Is it brand new? Did you partition some of it off?

No it's not the motherboard temp. I'll see if it lets me copy and paste....

CPU 18 °C (64 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 30 °C (86 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 30 °C (86 °F)

As for the HD, yes it is brand new and unpartitioned. I think the first thing I'm going to check is the sticker on the HD itself. But will do that tomorrow as I'll have to open the case up again...

ok the Cpu core temps are perfectly normal. you can dl CoreTemp and Speedfan to verify the temps. just google them. as for the hdd it is an old problem. are you running sp2, is everything updated? There are also various options in the bios to enable large disk support and what not. a quick google search will give you thousands of people with the exact same problem.

Thanks for the reply about the CPU temps.

Yes I have SP2 with all updates. However I used the whole SP2 download rather than all the incremental ones. I was going to try to "streamline" the SP2 install (i.e. create a new XP CD including SP2) but it didn't work out so I double clicked the update.exe instead. I then updated normally with some additional incremental updates.

I'll have a Google around. Thanks for your help.

So you installed xp with sp1 and then ran the updates? All you got to do is get in diskmanagement and partition the extra space and set it active. I've done it a dozen times. Im not sure about xp but in vista you can click extend volume and have one big C drive. You might end up with 2 drives in XP im not sure.

I use a freeware program call "autostreamer". Simple to use and works well.
