I am in the market for a new video card and was settled on a 8800gt 512 from gigabyte until I saw that 8800's are coming out in 1gb right now. The only 1gb model i can find is the Palit geforce 8800gt 1gb. Has anybody bought one of these? Or how much more performance does the extra 512 ram offer? Also isn't geforce supposed to be releasing a new card in Feb? thanks for you input cheers!

i agree with dragon, perhaps it would make sense if you were going to run two in SLI since you'd have double the memory for the gpu's to work on? it most likely would be a waste since it probably costs way more and 512 is fine for most things anyway. by the time games come out that need more, there will be better cards everyone will be buying.

Man, we are all so tired of waiting for the "next" Geforce cards after 8xx. Most of us caved for Crysis.

You are looking at buying now??? Bro, just wait till Feb., you'll be greatly rewarded at this point.

It's not worth the money vs performance, besides I heard the 1g cards are having heat "related" issues.. Hold off for a bit longer...

SLi does not double memory; he'll have two GPU's, but still only 512MB.

There's no guarantee that the Feb launch will include cards at the 8800GT's price point. Most likely it will be $400+ cards like it was with the 8800GTX/GTS launch.

Well even if the launch is at the high end price range it will bring the GTX down down maybe to $300 which is about my limit for a video card atm.

I'm pretty sure he meant that if you put the 8800gt cards with 1gb in SLI, then the two cards would have more memory to work with (a full 1 gb) and benefit from it.
