Hi everyone.

I'm looking into building a new pc at anytime. My main reasons for the build will be, video editing, FPS gaming, and surfing porn :kaola: . Just kidding about the last one. What I would like to know is, does anyone know when we can expect Intel to release their newer chips for this year? I'd like to build something soon but I can wait if newer chips are coming. I apologize if this question has been asked a lot but I couldn't find any info on Intel's site.

Do we know the specs/pricing on the newer chips? Would like to find a list of them, also.

Well, I appreciate your time for reading my post and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! :bounce:

I think Intel is still planning on launching new Celerons on Jan 20th. Don't now if anything else is going to be launched at that day anymore, as Intel has announced a few new processors would be delayed.

Penryn Based Mobile Chips will be announced Jan 7th.
The Dual Core Desktop Penryn Chips will be Jan 20th.

The Quad Core Desktop Chips are Q1 '08.
The Current Rumor is Feb/Mar, though there are still some indications that Jan is still possible for these.

I would expect to hear more details as soon as the Laptop Chips are released.

Intel is likely keeping dates close to their vest to avoid impacting existing sales.

It depends on the video editing aps you are using. Some won't even take advantage of having 4 cores. If you are using something that won't really take advantage of four cores then I would wait for the dual core Penryn chips on Jan 20 and build a machine based on one of those. I was going to upgrade my machine with a new Penryn quad but with the delay I've decided to get one of the new dual cores and overclock as I've heard that you can push to 4.0 GHz on air cooling.

Pinnacle doesn't appear to really utilize the quad cores:

Adobe Premiere would benefit a lot from the quad core:

Cinema 4D offers a clear advantage with quad core:

As far as I've heard, the dual core Penryn's (Wolfdale) are still scheduled for January release but the quad core Penryn's (Yorkfield) will be delayed until Feb/March.

holy blue letters, batman! :fou: if you wait a month or so, you might even get a new chipset. I think p45s are coming soon. At least you might be closer to knowing what is coming out.

That's what I was thinking to, hairycat. I'd like to build my new system within the next 4 months, but I can wait longer for better hardware to come out. I have shot a few digital videos of wildlife I'd like to piece together onto a dvd. Plus, I like fps games like COD 4 and the Battlefield series.

I'll create a list (in the near future) of all the hardware I have decided on and will post for everyones feedback. I want to make sure everything is compatible. After all, it will be my first build. I'll need all the help and suggestions I can get LOL.

Thanks for all the replies so far and take care everyone.
PEACE

You're set, all you have to do is wait about 2-3 months (like me) and get a brand new 45nm quad core. People say its not worth waiting for but come on its not that long and Nvidia should be unvaling something around that time too.(hopefully a 9 series, my 7800gtx won't last much longer)

Also what's your budget because if you want the fastest cpu available then just get the QX6950 now.

winkgood, I also read the similar thing. Well at least the c2d's are out on the 20th, then we will all know if the quad are delayed. Anyone care to place a wager ? :P

I myself am just holding off till 1st week of feb for making my system, wanna see what the new upcoming releases, including ati, nividia, have in store.

I personally dont think its really wise to spend that much now on the current boards and even cpus, as no mobo has support for nehalem. BUt hey, thats my 2cents worth of thought :)

Um... support for nehalem will take an entirely new chipset. No board but one made to use nehalem will support nehalem. I think its going to get its own socket type.

I wouldn't care if anything new is on it's way because right now Yorkfields are basically 1000 bucks a pop. Anything NEWER would be even more expensive.

Yorkie Q9550's are already listed on sites for under $600 and Q9450s for the mid $300s. The latter, at 2.66GHz with some serios OC headroom is probably going to be the hot ticket! :bounce:

Sorry. No list of hardware to post yet. But, I have a list of goodies I'll have next to me when I'm putting this bad boy together. They are...

1. A gallon of Coburg Chocolate milk :pt1cable: :pt1cable: (Damn, this stuff is like crack to me!)

2. Doritos (C'mon, you gotta have a bag of Doritos...Plus, the cat loves to lick my fingers once I'm DONE eating them.)

3. Bag of Hormel pepperoni (To put on them Doritos, man!)

Of course, a nice lemony fresh paper towel to cleanse my fingers before handling parts. The cat's breath stinks  !

Alright, anyone hear of anything on release dates let me know. Thanks again to all and talk to ya soon.
