Open mpg file to windows media player

please help me how to open mpg file using windows media player with windows XP SP2, because I try but still can't open...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.

Try using another program such as Winamp. If it doesn't play in that, the file is probably corrupt
