If I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck, which one do I go with? The GT's are a little cheaper, but the G92's look impressive, especially the MSI one.. *drool*

Opinions? Is the G92 that much better to go with it?

I was in the same battle. 8800GT for $270 or 8800GTS(G92) with Crysis for $350. So, really a $40 difference (seeing as I can get Crysis for $40) Even at that price difference, I think the 8800GT is a much better buy. The increase going to the 8800GTS is just not worth it to me.

Of course, the dual slot cooler on the GTS is very nice as well. Honestly, just go with the one that your budget allows.

Both 8800GT and 8800GTS 512 are G92
8800GTS > 8800GT, but the difference isnt much, i recommend u to get the 8800GTS if u play @ 1680x1050 or higher, if u play lower than that resolution then go for 8800GT

I just bought a 8800GTS w/Crysis for $330 last night. I'll sell Crysis for $30 so basically it cost me $300. The price difference between that and the 8800GT is worth it for the better cooling alone since an aftermarket cooler would cost more then the ~$30 difference and most likely void the warranty.

I personally would get the GTS because the cooler on the 8800GT is terrible. I do not like single slot coolers at all and dont trust them. Also the card is faster. This is actually why I bought the card you see in my sig. It is only ~4 or 5% better at my res of 1680x1050 than the 8800GT, but it has a dual slot cooler so it was worth it to me. Mine came with enemy territory quake wars, but I already have that game so it wasnt a deciding factor. My card was $345 at the time, but is now unavailable since it has basically been replaced by the 8800GTS 512mb card, which taks on another ~5 or 6% more speed on top of mine or so. Hope this helps.

Best,

I'd get the GTS over the GT if you have the money, not only will you have an extra game to help make up for the cost, but also a Dual slot cooler which should prove to be more efficient than that flimsy single slot GT cooler.

I am about to build a new PC.

The cooling issue of the GT has me concerned too. I am considering the GTS or ATI 3870 because of it. How is the cooling of the ATI?

Also, with an Intel mobo, the ATI gives me the option to do Crossfire in the future. The Nvidia 780i's are more expensive than a good X38 mobo, and way more than a P35 with two slots.

From what I've read some people are having issues with fan speeds or something like that. What I'm trying to say is, if you have about $300 only and you had to decide between 8800GT or HD 3870, then it's a no brainer that the GT is the better buy. HOWEVER if you have more than that and the GTS comes into play, then the GTS is the better buy under my eyes.

8800GT has a better price to performance ratio. If you're going to keep the card for a long long time then I guess that the 8800GTS(G92) would be a better purchase do to the fan size and slightly better performance. Personally I think that the 8800GT should be good enough though and if push comes to shove you could add a better cooling solution and OC the mofo to high heaven.

Just my 2 cents. Happy New Year.
