Hey guys i recently found out my brother JUST bought the blackbird 002...the 10.6k computer. Yes i think it's a little extreme but here's the thing... i want to make a gaming rig LIKE THAT cuz or next to the most powerful thing. Money = no issue , i just want it to be Custom rig that is MINE!! hehehe i made a bet with my brother , If i get a PC as powerful OR more powerful then his PC then he will pay ALL the expenses i had to get. I don't mine anything GIVE ME ALL U GOT PEOPLE!!!!! DDR3 would be awesome btw hehehe Monitor needed for Intense Gaming...

I need to Beat that...Everyone here i applause u guys for being such a great help ! w00t w00t!

That to me is a rip off. I can build that for you for way less, with the same or better parts. For example... I would build the computer with the new extreme chip! The one in the link is the old one.
December 23, 2007 11:36:27 AM

Unbelievable! What a waist of money for 10.6k, no offence but some people have more money then they do brains. If you can get your friend to pay for your computer system, then take advantage of the offer.

^Agreed. You could have a REALLY GOOD (i mean it) for about $6k, (including water cooling etc). @OP: The PC becomes outdated once the X48 chipset comes out. And by the end of next year YOU WILL HAVE to spend more $ if you wish to upgrade to the Nehalem CPUs (new socket, etc). And these new CPUs will be the same or lower price than the QX6850
and also more performance.

If you need to out do your brother at any cost - look for a system built around:

EVGA GF780i Tri-SLI
INTEL core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0ghz
CORSAIR TWIN3X2048-1600 CAS7 1600mhz DDR3

SILVERSTONE TJ09B-W case
SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000w PSU

You could build it yourself or for $90 have it assembled and tested at MWave.com
You'll probably save a couple thousand over what he paid but you're still looking at $7-8K

December 23, 2007 12:57:36 PM

Keep coming along guys , Hard drive wise? I need FAST but large ones? one for OS *thinking of Windows Vista Ult* Ram? I heard of this DDR3? or 4 or something? I heard u can OVERCLOCK the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 , ? also Video Card Wise? Nvidia? or...? Fatality? Guys , i don't need anything special "stuff" for my case like lights and ****. i find it's a waste. I'm needing a 1 terabyte , Hard drive? *fast possible please* so i'm needing a 150 hard drive for OS / Programs , 300 gig FASTEST for the games , and the 1 terabyte for my work. Guys Ur so awesome , and my brother's computer was like...2 weeks ago? he says "it's the best system available"

I believe the new Samsung F1 drives are the among the fastest drives out there at the moment. At 334GB per platter, they have the most dense capacity = better performance. Check out Toms HDD chart. Maybe a RAID array with these drives is in order?
December 23, 2007 1:54:06 PM

So I'm getting a RAID aaray? how much would that be? Btw Thanks for the HD F1 , I thought raptor had the Fastest
lmfao
December 23, 2007 2:07:40 PM

2x 150g raptors Raid 0 =$300ish
4x 500g HDDs=$400ish
qx9650= $1150ish
Asus Maximus fromula $250ish or the extrem one if you want DDR3 $330.00 ish I got to recommend DDR 2 still.
4g Adata 800 mhz Ram $100
$100 for good 750 watt PSU
$300 HD-DVD Blue ray Combo drive.
$150 for a case.
2x 3870 crossfire $500
DvD burner $30.00
Multi card reader $30
Vista Ultimate Oem for sytem builders $180
Tv Tuner card $160.00
Tuniq tower CPU cooler $50.00. No need for water if you want water cooling add $300.
Gaming Keyboard and mouse. $100.
40 " Samsung 1080p HDTV $1300.

Total:$5,100.00
This rig can run 4.2 on air cooling vs your brothers 3.0 on water. And your monitor would be way bigger then his.
December 23, 2007 2:32:18 PM

Hey there 69er ... raise the roof \../

Get the new Asus Striker II Formula with the QX9650 Yorkfield, and 3xD9E.

As well, you may introduce the new Solid State drives into your build (still pricey though).

All this if you have the patience to wait ever so slightly.

Are you on a time constraint?

;)

So I'm getting now...

2x 150g raptors Raid 0
Asus Striker II Formula with the QX9650 Yorkfield, and 3xD9E.

everything above. But here's the thing I'm wondering WHETHER or not to get the Water cooling. Cuz I'm going to be using a Lot of hear correct? cuz I'm also overclocking the QX9650! so i'm needing...?

December 23, 2007 4:38:21 PM

The board is maximus not striker.
December 23, 2007 5:40:57 PM

hmmm....So i should get that...? I need teh most POWERFUL system so I'm looking for. hehe I know i will win but still...i need to Get this OVERPRICED lmfao cuz I'm not paying for it. btw motherboards...which I'm not sure which to get now ? and AMD or INTEL?
December 23, 2007 6:37:31 PM

And the 780i with 3x 8800GTX Ultra Cards will give you the best GPU performance.

The QX6850 is needed and not the newer QX9650.
The Triple SI boards dont take take the 45nm Quads.

If you go AMD you wont be beating your brother.
December 23, 2007 6:40:27 PM

Well since he has 2 8800 Ultras in SLI, you will have to do the same if you are trying to get it more powerful than his. There are still no cards more powerful than those.

And you may need to watercool the videocards, just so you can squeeze out a little more overclocking. If you guys are using games as the benchmarking for the "powerfulness", then the videocards are the most important. Just make sure yours will be overclocked higher than his. EDIT: or like zenmaster said, just get the 780i and put 3 in SLI. Then it'd be easy to beat him.

And also, he has no raptors, so it'll be easy to beat him in hard drive speed. Capacity makes no difference when considering power.

You could take the literal route and just use the components that use the most power.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure if I believe the OP. This situation seems preposterous to me. It isn't really that hard to figure out that you can build a just as powerful PC. His brother said "as powerful or more powerful". So the OP could just build the exact same thing. I don't think his brother wouldn't see that.

Also, his brother gets nothing out of this. If the OP fails to make it "as powerful or more powerful", then his brother gets nothing. This situation just doesn't seem to be true.

But, even if it isn't, it's still fun to consider using the most advanced and expensive components you can in a computer.
December 23, 2007 6:47:05 PM

You could go with the Ultras, but they will be obsolete in Febuary. The 3870s will be able to do a guad xfire setup. If you do go the Ultra route you need a different motherboard.

Seems from the forums that Sli has alot more problems then xfire. I dont run either so I cant gaurantee it.
December 23, 2007 8:59:00 PM

I'm overclocking so Water cooling? btw i heard u can get algae if u use water is it true?
December 23, 2007 10:45:04 PM

Water cooling is more of a misnomer than anything. Its better called liquid cooling beacause in most cases you are using a coolant, just like car engine coolant. I'd have to say this is pretty hard to believe, I want to believe you but my BS meter is maxing out on this one. I suggest you just build the exact same system with raptor hdd in AID 0 to maximize performance.

Yes, They are SCSI Ultra320 68pin HDD.
That is why I listed PCI-Express SCSI Ultra320 68pin Controller as well.

The Intelligent Cache Controller will also give a very big boost in performance over standard SATA controllers beyond the massive drive performance.

December 23, 2007 11:02:22 PM

Server motherboard, i heard they had one that supports two quads and 6GB or memory. Run two 8800Ultras or just buy the quadros.

Honestly? This is worthless, for 5000 oyu could get an unstoppable rig. Or just buy 5, $2000 machines. That could still be two 8800gts G92, q6600, and GB Memory.
December 23, 2007 11:54:29 PM

Ahhh is this for real?
December 24, 2007 12:12:20 AM

Caamsa,

Who knows.
Maybe his brother is loaded.

There are people who have so much money, a few thousand here or there don't matter.

I've had friends in the past like that and it's quite nice.
I used to play cards with them for money every weekend when I was young and poor.

If I won, I kept the money.
If I lost, they said to not worry about it :>

Now, that's the kind of friends to have :>>
December 24, 2007 12:22:28 AM

Ok, you said their is no budget so i will build you the max in performance (without the hassle of water cooling)

PPU: Not really necessary but it is helpful.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Speakers: logitech z-5500's best set of 5.1 gaming speakers withought getting to hightech..

All in all this is definitely as good as it gets running you 6-7k without a monitor and completely obliterating your brothers rig! Oh and since your videocards are all from evga you will be able to trade them in for 9800GTX if they are released withing 90days of your purchase which is very possible!
December 24, 2007 12:24:32 AM

Im not too sure this is for real. If you can show me something that your "brother" actually bought the computer, then mabe ill believe you. And btw, why are people **** morons? roadrunner, he said better, not worse. that ram is no good, read. And 2 3870s against 2 8800ultras? yea, ur an idiot. For it to be 'better' your going to have to go with tri-SLi, 780i mobo with the fastest ram that it will take and the most. 1000+ watt psu with a **** of amps qx9650. and if do have all that you WILL need water cooling because you have no idea how hot everything will get
December 24, 2007 12:29:37 AM

2KW PSU
3 Ultras OCed
2Gb Sticks of DDR3
SSD of OS, triple boot, XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu
150GB Raptor for Software and Games
Figure, 6 1TB Drives for raw storage?

And obviously unnecessary stuff say:
Killer Network card
Physics Card
TV Tuner

If you got with the right full tower case you could use Blu Ray drives, HD DVD drives, a few of each burners.

Don't forget the phase change cooling, or 8 gallons of cooking oil?
December 24, 2007 12:32:56 AM

3 Ultras will do fine with 1kw they ran them with 800w in the anandtech review
December 24, 2007 12:34:56 AM

then 1k watt psu it is.
December 24, 2007 12:34:58 AM

jut get stuff a level higher than his,> 780i chipset, 3 8800 Ultra in sli, qx9650, 2x2 gb of ram, samsung spinpoint f1 1000gb, 950 watt tuniq miniplant...
December 24, 2007 12:39:08 AM

Thge ram is fine, very overclockable, spend more if you want it really dont matter, still under budget either way. 3870s do run better in some situations and the drivers arent optimized yet. 3 GTX's is retarded for no more performance then you get. Fast ram dont do nothing if your not running it to the full speed, just a waste of money. Your cards are most likely blowing the hot air out the back as well as the PSU, you will not need water cooling. A case with good airflow is plenty.

Besides as I said before if you want the 8800GTXs you need a different mobo, its really up to the person that is gonna have the system.

Oh and the ram will run the qx9650 to 3.6 at stock speed.

Theres lots of parts for more money, but when I build I do the best for the best price. When I buy a car it dont got to have chrome valve covers to be fast.
December 24, 2007 12:46:04 AM

Get one exactly like your brothers but get the bigger monitor then yours is better and you win.

That would probably be worse, due to the increased resolution ;) .

Try this, I just took the most expensive parts I could find. prices are mostly from ncix.us one or two items from newegg. This doesn't include peripheral devices printers, scanners, headphones, computer chair, but should put your bro's computer in place performance and price wise.
