That to me is a rip off. I can build that for you for way less, with the same or better parts. For example... I would build the computer with the new extreme chip! The one in the link is the old one.

Unbelievable! What a waist of money for 10.6k, no offence but some people have more money then they do brains. If you can get your friend to pay for your computer system, then take advantage of the offer.

^Agreed. You could have a REALLY GOOD (i mean it) for about $6k, (including water cooling etc). @OP: The PC becomes outdated once the X48 chipset comes out. And by the end of next year YOU WILL HAVE to spend more $ if you wish to upgrade to the Nehalem CPUs (new socket, etc). And these new CPUs will be the same or lower price than the QX6850
and also more performance.

If you need to out do your brother at any cost - look for a system built around:

EVGA GF780i Tri-SLI
INTEL core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0ghz
CORSAIR TWIN3X2048-1600 CAS7 1600mhz DDR3

SILVERSTONE TJ09B-W case
SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000w PSU

You could build it yourself or for $90 have it assembled and tested at MWave.com
You'll probably save a couple thousand over what he paid but you're still looking at $7-8K

2x 150g raptors Raid 0 =$300ish
4x 500g HDDs=$400ish
qx9650= $1150ish
Asus Maximus fromula $250ish or the extrem one if you want DDR3 $330.00 ish I got to recommend DDR 2 still.
4g Adata 800 mhz Ram $100
$100 for good 750 watt PSU
$300 HD-DVD Blue ray Combo drive.
$150 for a case.
2x 3870 crossfire $500
DvD burner $30.00
Multi card reader $30
Vista Ultimate Oem for sytem builders $180
Tv Tuner card $160.00
Tuniq tower CPU cooler $50.00. No need for water if you want water cooling add $300.
Gaming Keyboard and mouse. $100.
40 " Samsung 1080p HDTV $1300.

Total:$5,100.00
This rig can run 4.2 on air cooling vs your brothers 3.0 on water. And your monitor would be way bigger then his.

Hey there 69er ... raise the roof \../

Get the new Asus Striker II Formula with the QX9650 Yorkfield, and 3xD9E.

As well, you may introduce the new Solid State drives into your build (still pricey though).

All this if you have the patience to wait ever so slightly.

Are you on a time constraint?

;)

And the 780i with 3x 8800GTX Ultra Cards will give you the best GPU performance.

The QX6850 is needed and not the newer QX9650.
The Triple SI boards dont take take the 45nm Quads.

If you go AMD you wont be beating your brother.

Well since he has 2 8800 Ultras in SLI, you will have to do the same if you are trying to get it more powerful than his. There are still no cards more powerful than those.

And you may need to watercool the videocards, just so you can squeeze out a little more overclocking. If you guys are using games as the benchmarking for the "powerfulness", then the videocards are the most important. Just make sure yours will be overclocked higher than his. EDIT: or like zenmaster said, just get the 780i and put 3 in SLI. Then it'd be easy to beat him.

And also, he has no raptors, so it'll be easy to beat him in hard drive speed. Capacity makes no difference when considering power.

You could take the literal route and just use the components that use the most power.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure if I believe the OP. This situation seems preposterous to me. It isn't really that hard to figure out that you can build a just as powerful PC. His brother said "as powerful or more powerful". So the OP could just build the exact same thing. I don't think his brother wouldn't see that.

Also, his brother gets nothing out of this. If the OP fails to make it "as powerful or more powerful", then his brother gets nothing. This situation just doesn't seem to be true.

But, even if it isn't, it's still fun to consider using the most advanced and expensive components you can in a computer.

You could go with the Ultras, but they will be obsolete in Febuary. The 3870s will be able to do a guad xfire setup. If you do go the Ultra route you need a different motherboard.

Seems from the forums that Sli has alot more problems then xfire. I dont run either so I cant gaurantee it.

Water cooling is more of a misnomer than anything. Its better called liquid cooling beacause in most cases you are using a coolant, just like car engine coolant. I'd have to say this is pretty hard to believe, I want to believe you but my BS meter is maxing out on this one. I suggest you just build the exact same system with raptor hdd in AID 0 to maximize performance.

Yes, They are SCSI Ultra320 68pin HDD.
That is why I listed PCI-Express SCSI Ultra320 68pin Controller as well.

The Intelligent Cache Controller will also give a very big boost in performance over standard SATA controllers beyond the massive drive performance.

Server motherboard, i heard they had one that supports two quads and 6GB or memory. Run two 8800Ultras or just buy the quadros.

Honestly? This is worthless, for 5000 oyu could get an unstoppable rig. Or just buy 5, $2000 machines. That could still be two 8800gts G92, q6600, and GB Memory.
