hi all,

recently i have met a problem of internet connection. i just changed to use my senior PC, but i now can't connect to the internet through the connection i made by XP. strange things is simply create a connection then can connect on other PC.
situation:
after i create a connection, set number to dial to *99#, and disable IP header compression. then when i connect it, always failed at "Registering your computer on the network". so then Error is: Error 720, A connection to the remote computer could not be established.

any expert can give a a guide? thanks!

Are you on cable, dsl or dial up?

Is ISP software installed and what's it?

Try resetting or power-cycling (off & on) the modem. If no go, call up your ISP.

I hunted for months for a solution to this problem RAS error code 720.

I have a Thinkpad T60 and about six months ago was suddenly unable to use my Vodafone Vodem so I tried my old Vodafone card modem and it wouldn't work either. Even tried my Sony phone with a cable and it wouldn't work. When I've travelled for the last six months I have had to take my old T42 with me and all the modems work fine with that laptop.

I have tried many solutions to this and wasted countless hours.

Today I finally found a tiny free program called rarepair.exe - do a search and you can easily find it but I got it from here

http://forums.practicallynetworked [...] mentid=131

Click on it and it removes all your network drivers, reboots your machine, reinstalls the drivers and then does a second reboot.

Everything was restored perfectly. I would have paid serious money for this as it has saved me from doing a fresh XP install which would have taken weeks to get everything reinstalled.

Please copy this to any sites you have visited while trying to find a solution.

Microsoft couldn't fix this problem - or pretended it didn't exist. Lenovo are in denial that it exists.

The person who wrote this little program is a hero!

HAI FRIENDS IF YOU FIND ERROR 720 PLEASE CHECK YOUR WINDOWS FIREWALL IS WHETHER IN ON OR OFF. IF IT IS IN ON PLS CHANGE INTO OFF THAT'S ALL!

Are you serious????
This problem has *nothing* to do with firewall settings - it's a network driver issue.
Turning off your firewall could expose your computer to an avalanche of online threats if you forget to turn it back on again once you have fixed the drivers. Then you would waste even more time fiddling with your computer because of this stupid and (as usual) obscure M$ network fault!

Harvest - you are an absolute STAR !

I've spent many hours trying to get this working.... tried all the usual netsh stuff and even some of the registry things.

Found this via another site linked from google and bish bash bosh - you, and this little file have done what o2 could not.

I'll try and visit the sites I found before this one and spread the word in case there are any other T60 users with this issue.

Can't get my hands down. The program Microsoft Remote Access Repair Tool dit it for me - and for which Harvest (thank you so much for posting) posted a direct download link.

I had an 'Error 720' with a mobile modem, and only after weeks of (admittedtly intermittent) search for a solution, including several calls to the tech support department of the mobile carrier, did I arrive at this page.

Here's the link to the actual post at Practicallynetworked com, from where Harvest found the solution. Credit goes to Maxgle - well, actually he had found it somewhere else :=)). Isn't the Net wonderfull..

http://forums.practicallynetworked [...] t=rarepair

I cannot find a link to a Microsoft page, describing the product in more detail.
