Zalman cooler for my 8800GT?

I'm looking on the Zalman website at their VGA coolers and trying to figure out which models are compatible with the 8800GT I'm ordering. Unfortunately most of them don't seem to be compatible, just the huge monster 1000 series.

What do you guys use for cooling on your 8800GT's? I'm looking for quietness and overclocking ability, preferably for under $40.

Thanks!

Cool, thanks Paul. Would the VF700 CU work on the 8800 GT as well? It's about $10 cheaper and comes with ram sinks...$28 and free shipping from my source.

Be sure to check the power connector. The 8800GT has a 4-pin terminal, the Zalman has a 3-pin. This effectively disables speed control from the GPU. I found the Zalman at full blast quite loud and strapped an 80mm 1300 rpm Scythe to it - powered from a 3-pin theader on the mobo - it's nice and quiet now. The highest temp I've seen is 52 C. and I can't hear it at all. I don't use heatsinks on the mosfets because the sticky pad looks like an insulator to me. Gigabyte doesn't use them on their Zalman cooled 8800GT either.

If I was in the market for one I'd get the Accelero S1 and put a quiet Scythe 4-pin fan on it.

I use the VF900 on my 8800GT and it cools effectively and quietly.
cooler (comes with ramsinks)

for the mosfets (which I would strongly suggest)

3pin to 4pin adapter (for fan controller)

Some people dis-agree with this cooler but it works, has a proven track record, is quiet (especially on low), and only takes up the space of 1 additional slot.

I put an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 with the turbo modules on my 8800GT. Allowed the overclock in my sig with idle temps at 34 and load temps of 44. Beats the VF900 for half the price... Can match the VF900 cooling performance without the turbo module i.e. entirely passively cooled.

i would be ok wiht either of them, you should be too, but personally i'd go for the arctic cooling because it is almost silent/non-audable

I'm very glad that it works for you.
There are several good choices available depending on individual configurations and requirements.
BTW: What was the topic of the thread and the question posed by the OP? (not to get off-topic, the only reason I mention this).

Well, I believe the last sentence says it all. What do I use for cooling on my 8800GT? Oh, I told him... (a more cost effective cooler that actually outperforms the Zalman)

You should probably reread the original post...

The VF900CU works great, not too big, and very quiet. Here are a few pics to give you a general idea of what to expect .......

This is the card once you remove the Stock Cooler and clean off the GDDR3 and VRM/Mosfets ....

These are the VRMs which you need to buy the extra ramsinks for ....

This is how the GT will look with all but 2 of the memory ramsinks attached ...

This is what the finished card will look like with the Zalman installed ....
