My start up button option won\'t come up

hi, when i left click on my windows icon (vista) i used to be able to bring up my start menu, but a couple of months ago it stopped working....help

Try a restore to before when this started happening

or

run sfc /scannow from command prompt

or

Do a repair from your Installation CD

also i don't have the installation disk....it was preloaded when i got the laptop

Forget system restore, since it was over two months ago (sorry, I just noticed), and you have no Win CD......Sooooo

You can try running the system file checker (SFC) to repair system files:

thanks, but before i do that i need to backup my files right? also, i have vista not windows 7 does that make a difference?

SFC is the same for Win7 & VISTA. Here is the Microsoft Link:

You do not have to backup personal files, as this will check system files only and replace them if need be. :ouch:
