Hey, I recently started having issues w/ my proc (Athlon 64 x2 5000+ @ stock speeds) as you can probably tell from the title of the thread.

Usage: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b146/Telsatrooper554/cpu_usage.jpg

Processes: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b146/Telsatrooper554/taskman.jpg

I find it really strange that not a single process is using more than 1-2% of CPU. (Except System Idle Process, but that's normal) I've scanned for viruses first using AVG, then Kapersky, but nothing came up... Tried updating / rolling back any recent drivers to no avail... I'm wondering if anyone else has some suggestions as to what the cause of this may be?

Update: Tried a repair install of Windows and trying RAM in single channel mode and memtesting. Still no luck...

Also, after reading an older thread here, I found that this is likely a hardware conflict. Next step is a clean format installing one device at a time. (I'm pretty sure this happened after I added my Creative Soundcard or my Razer Lachesis Mouse)

Hi rgeist554,

I have you tried the free-ware utility Process Explorer (Google)?? It will show show you way more information about what is sucking up your CPU... Windows task manager is dogies do-do's... I think you will find it is interrupts or DPCs that are using up all that CPU time (which Process Explorer will show)...

I have actually started using System Restore (I kid you not!!) since I started using Windows x64. Since I found the OS is so much less stable than the 32-bit version... It could be useful for your problems!!

'dxdiag' Windows utility is supposed to detect driver conflicts but I have never found it terribly useful!!

Thanks, BobWya.

You're right, ProcEplorer shows that it's ALL Hardware Interrupts and DPC's. (Really cool program btw)

Now, I just have to root the source of the problem out. :s

It will be a nice chip once you sort that out.
I have mine up to 3150ish with ease on stock voltage.
IMO probably the best bang for the buck chip there is.

It worked great for about 4 months, but recently is when I installed the new hardware (mouse and soundcard) and then I noticed that my games were realllllly choppy. That's when I opened the old task manager and confused the crap out of my self.

Anyways, Process Explorer confirmed it was a hardware interrupt and DPC's... so now I just have to figure out how I undo whatever is causing it. Right now I'm really tempted to blame this on the mouse since it was the last thing I installed when I actually noticed the performance issues. Problem is, I'm not quite sure which drivers / software to remove yet.

i have the exact same problem mine occurs whenever i use leadtek's winfast pvr2 to record programs to my hd when i finish recording i reboot and all is good until the next time. i think it may be a recording codec problem because i can watch tv with no issues long as i don't record. it hasn't been enough of a pain in the a$$ to force me to hunt it down so please let us know how it turns out. good luck

Try looking in device manager. Conflicts will usually show up there.
