Well, hello everyone. I am wrazor from India and i joined today after being a regular at this site for the past 2 months.Very good site with a good community :sol:

Ok now my problem:
I own the following config:
Intel E4300 cpu @ 1.8 ghz C2D
Intel G965RYCK mobo
Transecend 1GB ram @800Mhz.
PSU 450watts.
NO GRAPHIC CARD.

I do gaming but its mostly in strategy games. When i bought this thing(7-7-07)i was short on budget and couldnt afford a graphics card.So i did some research and concluded that GMAX3000 is good onboard graphics solution and would serve me well upto a year(by then DX10 cards would go down too).I have no issues playing Age of Empires and like. But i try playing UT3 and the computer restarts in 5 mins usually(same goes for PES2008).The GMAX3000 new drivers were released but when i download them, and install them,i get the message about installation being successful and the comp gets restart. But when i check the driver version,it still shows the older one :( I treid uninstalling the old driver and installing new one but same result. Can someone help me??BTW is 450W enough if i were to buy a graphic card(ati 3850 or ge 8800GT)??What is the probable cause for this problem and how can i solve this,if atall?? :( Merry Christmas to everyone BTW :bounce:

You might have a security/system utility that backs up & restores the windows registry, hence, retaining the old version #.

When you uninstall, you have to reboot. If you don't & go on installing the new one in the same session, it might not install right. Also, if it asks you to delete your video profile, do it.

425W 28A on +12V rails is fine for 8800GT. About the same for HD3870. It's not a good idea to stress the PSU as it will shorten the longevity & lower the efficiency (wasted energy). I'd get a 500W+ psu:

Ohh ic.Thx for the reply, but i did restart my comp after i uninstalled the old driver. After i restarted my comp,on starting the windows it just took me to found new hardware and installed the new drivers. So that didnt help :(

"You might have a security/system utility that backs up & restores the windows registry, hence, retaining the old version #."

How do i check if thats the case?? If it is,what can i do to rectify it.
Also,u said 425W is just fine for 8800GT,so you would get 500W for safety. So 450W doesnt cut it?? If the max is 425W, am I not safe @ 450W(not being arrogant i just wanna know why you think 500W is on safe side).

I'm not saying 450w won't work. It will. 425w will too. But I'm saying if you get a bigger psu, it will last longer. Do you always floor the pedal while driving? You can, but you'll stress it.

I wouldn't know what you installed on your pc. Do you have an internet suite like norton, mcafee, etc.? If you run xp pro, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, Applications, look for 1517 error id. That's the one that reverts the registry back to a previous one.

Hey thx man. I apreciate ur efforts. On the error: I found no erros of 1517 but several warnings.So...what should be my next plan of action man. And thx again for the help!!!

Register cleaners can cause this. Emergency Recovery Utility NT or ERUNT caused the same thing for my pc which reversed my registry back to the old one.

If you follow the right instruction, I don't think there's anything else you can do other than a repair install of xp. I suggest you copy & paste these posts in a windows forum.

I'm not sure if this will help, but you can try disabling System Restore. (Right-click My Computer -> Click Properties -> Click the 'System Restore' tab -> Check 'Turn off System Restore' box) This will remove all your old System Restore points, so don't do this if you find your self in need of a System Restore anytime soon.

After disabling the restore, try installing the new drivers followed by a reboot and see if that sticks. You could also trying going into device manager and manually selecting the location of the updated driver file.
