No beeps, probably because it's not completing POST and/or the internal speaker in the case is not connect.

You're going to need at least CPU + cooler, GPU, RAM plus the relevant power connectors to complete POST sucessfully: 24-pin ATX, 4-pin P4, 6-pin PCI-E, all your header pins connected correctly (PWR, Reset Switch, PWR LED, HDD LED, SPKR).

You don't need hard or optical drives connected, but you'll get an error as the BIOS looks for a bootable device and doesn't find one (that's ok for now). You really need to get it past the POST stage and enter BIOS, and you can do that without drives.

Check for your CPU, GPU and other fans running when powering up.

The products you've listed appear to be compatible, so no culprit there.

I know this borders on lame, but do you have the monitor cable plugged into the primary output of the 8800GT?

Until you can actually see that you can get into BIOS, it seems to be a matter of fumbling around in the dark. If it sounds like POST is completing (you get the confirmation beep), but no video, subsitute another GPU if you've got one handy. Not a 8800xx, just something that works.

@seabreeze

i connected the internal speaker, it goes next to all the header pins i believe... this is only my second build so its not like i know everything there is to know, but im fairly certain i got all the header pins in correctly.

next, im using the intel stock cooler, and yes the cooler powers up. my gpu fan powers up as well (makes my pc 100% louder>< ). hard drives whir up as well.

i tried placing one stick of ram in the first slot one at a time to see if that was the case, and that dosent seem to be it.

i also tried putting in my old 7800gt, to no effect. and i tried both slots just to be safe, still nothing

im also concerned that i cant use the power button to turn the pc off.. while im fiddling its fine to just hit the power supply switch right?

Oops. It's DS3L.

Power it on, put a windows/linux cd in, see if it starts to load. If so, your problem may be the monitor/gpu/connection. BTW, if some monitors have a symptom in which it won't show anything if you switch from d-sub to dvi for the 1st time. In that case, unplug the monitor power cord for 5 mins, power pc on, power on monitor & hook 'em up.
