can anyone suggest freeware software that can be used to clone a hard drive. another question is if you can enlarge the partition when cloning the hard drive. also if you do have to keep the partition the same size is it safer to keep valuable date separate from the partition that has your operating system.

Seagate and Western Digital provide software (for their drives) that accomplishes cloning, that is free and allows you to expand the size of the partitions.

Just follow the links to the appropriate drive and/or software program.
