Just built my first computer and I have no idea what I'm doing. Well, maybe a little but not much. I hoped building my first would help me learn. Finally got everything connected but when I start up I can't boot because I only have a wireless keyboard. Any work around for this or do I just have to wait until tommorow to run to the store?
Probably stupid question but anyway I can link my laptop keyboard?
Thanks for any help. I'm computer challenged but learning.
wow... I have no idea what your problem is... only because of your vauge explanation of the problem. It's probably something easy. Wireless keyboard shouldnt play a part in it. You can use a wireless keyboard before you load drivers.
what it sounds like to me is that you think your keyboard is keeping your computer from booting???? That makes no sense whatsoever! Your computer not booting can only mean that windows is not installed properly or your have something not connected right or something hardware came bad from store.
Be more specific and we can help more... good luck!
I just built the computer so no OS is loaded or any drivers. I thought that most likely the wireless keyboard would not work because of this. The computer starts up and evrything appears to be functioning (which is amazing) and I get the screen that says "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."
Since my wireless keyboard doesn't seem to be recognized I cant press a key to start the boot process.
Hope that helps explain what my problem is.
Thanks
UPDATE- Okay pressed cntrl-alt-dlt and it rebooted confirming the keyboard is working so I understand now the confusion. I thought it was a keyboard problem.
After cntrl-alt-dlt it rebooted and brought up same screen "Reboot and select proper boot device....."
I dont know if I have something hooked up wrong now or what I'm doing wrong. I have the motherboard setup disk in the dvd rom. On startup it goes through the auto detect and says press F11 to enter the BPS POPUP. If I press F11 it lets me select a boot device but the only options are floppy and ST3320620AS which I discovered was my hard drive. The DVD drive is not recognized. So I guess thats my problem
I have it hooked up to the power supply with but I dont have it hooked up to the Motherboard. The drive had an IDE connection which my motherboard does not support. Any suggestions?

Are you pressing F8 so you can select your boot device DVD drive as boot? You supposed to put the OS CD into DCD drive and hit F8.

Sounds like the computer cannot find the boot device, which in a new computer means the optical (CD or DVD) drive. You need to go into the BIOS and select the optical drive, put an OS install disk in the CD/DVD drive and reboot. The OS install process should start. Once that's done, you need to go back into the BIOS and select the HD you installed the OS on.
i know why your keyboard is not working.. im thinking that wireless keyboard is usb.. right?? then you need to go in to the bios and set enable in the use keyboard thing. (if your keyboard works at the very first screen so that you can go in to the bios) but if it doesnt work .... man no idea..
It sounds like the computer is ready to load the OS but since your DVD is not connected to the mobo you have no device to load it from. Having it connected to the power does no good if not connected to the mobo.
If your mobo has no IDE connection, you need to get either a new DVD drive (suggested) with SATA connector and connect it up, or get a PCI card with IDE connectors to connect your old device. Then make sure it is recognized in the BIOS as the first boot device. Then it should proceed back to where you were and you can load your OS>

Ditto. You dont use the motherboard CD until windows is loaded, then you can install your drivers from the mobo cd. Most of them will probably be installed by the OS already.

So your keyboard is working fine now? All your USB settings should default to enable so you shouldnt have to tweak anything in that area. All you have to do is select first boot device and your good to go. First boot should be CD which will auto appear once you hook it up. Then load windows. Then drivers. Very simple process.
I highly doubt that your mobo doesnt support IDE. What kind of mobo do you have? If it doesnt you will have to exchange drive for a SATA drive.
I bought the Elite G33T-M2 from newegg. The manual is pretty bad, but I don't know how detailed these things usually are. I cant find any IDE ports or info in the manual. Previous reviews on newegg for the MoBo say it doesnt support IDE.
So my main problem appears to be the disk drive connection, I'm going to go get an IDE-SATA adapter or new drive if I have to to fix that.
Once the computer recognizes the drive, Ill try to install the OS rather then the mobo disc as I was trying to do.
So my question now is, why is the floppy recognized when I only have it hooked up to the power supply but the DVD drive is not when its hooked up the same way?
Thanks

Yeah, that mobo doesn't support parallel ATA(IDE). You'll need either a PCI SATA daughtercard or a SATA hard drive.
As to your floppy disk drive, well the mobo does have a FDD connector, so it's supported. Are you sure it's not plugged into your motherboard? Is your DVD drive a SATA drive?
