I am building a new computer primarily for gaming, but will be used for various other tasks like web development and design. Below I will list my specs and hope that some of the experts amongst these forums can chime in their two cents. I am unsure of going sli, or if i should buy an 8800gtx and then upgrade once the 9800 comes out, or if i whould go sli with something like the gt or gts. Also im unsure on the motherboard, which relates to my above question, because obviously i would need a mobo capable of sli or 3 way sli. Here are my specs let me know, If there are better parts to be had for minimal extra cost please let me know. Thanks for your help. Also verify the powersupply, i like modular if possible. Also I really want my mobo to be as future proof as possible so the next time i upgrade it can just be parts like gpu, memory, and proc.. etc.

What res are you playing games at? if its not ~1600x1200 the SLI is pretty much useless...

I would get something like a 8800GT and wait for something better to come out. eVGA have a step-up program that my help you out.

The maximus formula you will pay a premium for as its a ROG board, the P3E would be just as good with a few less features, much less price.

Q6600 is a good choice atm but consider than the yorkfields are around the corner.

good PPSU and RAM there and HDD...

Cooler i would go with Thermalright 120 is Overclocking if not than something like Arctic Freezer 7 would be great for price.

Thanks for the reply Chookman... When are the yorkfields coming out and at the price they will be on launch is it worth waiting? Also i play at 1680 x 1050 which is a nice resolution. And as i mentioned i dont mind paying a higher premium for something that will last that much longer.

Thanks again

Those look like good choices. I have the same WD750GB drive and I really like it. You can save some money by getting the 8800GTS/512 card.

Every thing looks good. :) I agree with chookman about the graphics card. Also note that all upgradability of current motherboard dies at the end of next year due to the release of the Nehalm (new socket, etc), so you might want to consider some other board like the P3E or smiler.

gts or gt? Is there a modular power supply that will suit this systems needs? Any recommendations on a good case? I looked at the Asus vento it looks neat so does the coolermaster cosmos, what do you guys think?

thanks,

Hi everbs,

Look at my sig ... plays all games on max at 12x10, with crazy frames, thus, 16x10 would be great for the same price, if not cheaper.

;)

8800GT (not 8800GTS). as for the case get an Antec 900 or smiler. The case has enough space and good air flow.
