My pc has 8 cores but only 4 are showing

I have one of those gadgets on my side bar which only shows 4 cores but it has previously showed 8. Im running windows vista and have 2 quad core 2.ghz chips. Device manager sees all the cores and lists them as fine and working properly. When i view them in task manager and performance monitor they too only show 4. Why is there not 8 showing??

Are you sure you don't have a quad core with hyperthreading!4 cores , 4 virtual cores.

What CPU do u have Darbz?
