I have a E8400 (3ghz), Asus P5K-E (P35) motherboard, Corsair DDR2-800mgz ram (5-5-5-12,1.9v), and 8800 GTS 512mb videocard. I have also installed an aftermarket cooler (Arctic Freezer 7 Pro). As well I have 6 120mm fans (3 outflow from back/top and 3 inflow from front/side/bottom).

I have the system overclocked to 3.6ghz. Other than that everything else is base. The vcore I'm running at is 1.216v.

At 3.6ghz with an ambient room temperature of 22:

Idle temps (1.216v) are CPU = 30 Core 1 = 44 Core 2 = 38 and GPU = 44.

Load temps (Prime 95 and it stays at 1.216v) are CPU = 42 Core 1 = 54 Core 2 = 50 and GPU = 44.

Load temps (Crysis and also at 1.216v still) are CPU = 41 Core 1 = 55 Core 2 = 51 and GPU = 58.

So are these temperatures normal? Too hot? Within range? Any comments would greatly be appreciated.

**Bonus question that has stumped me to no end! Are you able to answer it?**

In my bios (Asus P5K-E), when I set the vcore manually, lets say to 1.300v, when I boot up the computer CPUZ and the BIOS monitor itself will tell me that the vcore is actually only like 1.208v (for example). Does anyone know why this happens? It is really irritating because the closest I can get to the stock voltage of 1.225v is 1.216v! When I select the next incremental vcore in the bios (1.3 something or other) it will overshoot 1.225v but a fair margin! Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks.

Temperatures are good. As for vcore drop in windows, it shouldn't be nearly that high. Enabling loadline calibration should help with vdroop on max load, but won't do much for the drop in windows. Might have to do with poor quality capacitors. I'd probably rma it, but if it works fine, and don't plan to oc further, you might as well keep it. :p

Basically, this is what is happening:

I set the vcore in the bios to be let us say 1.210v.

I save settings and restart the computer.

When the computer loads up and I go into the bios, the setting still says 1.210v, HOWEVER, when I go to the Hardware monitor section of the bios (fan speeds, temps, voltages, etc) it will show a much lower vcore, for example, 1.140v. Loading up windows, and CPUZ, the vcore also shows as 1.140v.

As well, I run my system at 1.216v, and when I put it under load it doesn't chanage while I run an intensive program, it stays at 1.216v. In otherwords, I believe this means I have NO Vdroop. Is that correct?

So the real question is why does the bios take a voltage setting, and then really put out a much lower "real" voltage. Right now, I have my vcore set to 1.310v (or something close to it, can't remember off hand) and yet it only produces a real voltage of 1.216 (which stays that way under load or not under load). So then, if it is bad capicitors is this a real problem? Or does it really matter, as long as I can get it to spit out the real voltage I need? (Never gonna oc past 3.6ghz either).

Grab the latest bios version? Anyways, my theory here is that the settings in the bios isn't accurate. As for your no Vdroop, perhaps it's already doing it? Meaning that the voltage you're looking at is after the vdroop? Dunno.
