Hi guys. I just finished building my custom computer and I'm having some problems. When it turns power on, it won't display a picture to the monitor. The monitor just sits on orange stand-by. The harddrives spin up, the diskdrives work and everything seems to be fine. But it won't seem to display a picture or post. And then after about 30 seconds, it shuts off.

700 Watt PSU
Asus P5n-E sli mobo
Pentium D 925 @ 3.0 ghz
2 GB pc 6400 800mhz RAM (1 dimm)
Geforce 8600 GT
120 GB WD 7200 RPM
180 GB Seagate
DVD-ROM drive
Plenty of cooling in the case (a.k.a 200 mm fan, 6 120 mm)

I've tried reading up on some other threads and I really don't know what to do. i've read that resetting the cmos could work, but i don't know where the jumper is on this mobo (i don't have the manual) so if someone could give me some detailed instructions maybe that would work... I'm at a loss and a little frustrated. Any help would be great.

You have either one of two problems - because I had this exact same problem yesterday with my p5n-e SLI.

Your motherboard is bad

I had bought the $85 "open box" p5n-e from Newegg thinking I was getting a good deal, only to find out that the motherboard was shot. The motherboard would only boot when one stick of ram was installed, but not two - and only in one of the slots. It also wouldn't not boot if I put in my new E6850 - when I put in my older E4400, it started right up, as long as the ram was in the right spot. I sent it back today for an RMA...newegg is sending a replacement instead of a refund (against their own policy)...

It was weird, but it looks like you have the exact same problem. If you have another compatible processor laying around, throw it in there and see if it boots - if so, send the board back...

veaviticus you have any of your old parts, ram video card etc,(no post beep may be your ram,I know you are useing 2gb 1 ram and I'm guessing you have it in the first slot? what brand is ram,and why not buy 2 -1 gig ram or 2 - 2 gig ram to run them in dual channel.

I had a asus p5nsli bd,the worst board that was ever made ,never got one award for anything, finally got it stable, and trade for gig 965,that has been great,an over clock well.first of all you got to get it to post, try ram if you can get some, borrow maybe
