I bought an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 VGA Cooler for the 3870. I got it on and everything seems to be running a lot cooler. When I have the card overclocked to 872/1201 games just freeze. For example, i can play call of duty 4 for about 20 minutes and then it just freezes. I have also flashed the card with the latest BIOS and i have a 750w PSU. Anyone have any ideas on why the games are freezing when overclocked?

Erm, I use that cooler for my X1900 XT are you sure their menat to be used for the 38xx range? Anyway the fact that you overclocked it and it has started freezing should give you a pretty big clue as to why games are locking up. Just turn your clock rates down until games stop freezing, at this rate your just killing your video card.
a little update on the issue. I have the card overclocked to 850/1250 and it runs better than before but i still get some freezing. Now i ran ati tool artifact scan for about 2 hours and at the end the temps never passed 46c. So now i am wondering what is holding me back from overclocking even more without freezing.
How much performance gain do you have from the stock settings on Call of Duty 4. I running the same card as yours but I have no need to overclock it yet since it runs the CoD4 and Crysis well. I'm using Vista32bit, dual core 4Ghz , 4Gb ram DDR2 400 and HD3870 with VF-900cu cooler.
