I see the Antec 900 case at a good price this weekend... I'd like to buy it but my girlfriend absolutely will NOT accept blue neon lights in the house. This case seems to be full of blue LED fans.

Question -- Can the LED on these fans be broken or removed?

I don't want to have to buy new fans .. that'd make this case not such a good deal and I'd get the Coolermaster Centurion instead.

You could get P182, it doesn't come with the led fans, but I don't know how the price would be different from the antec 900, maybe $20-30.

I own the Antec 900 and it is a superb case.  I am an avid overclocker and the 900 has the best case cooling of the bunch.  When ordering, I initially was not happy about the blue LED's that are present on the fans.  To get rid of the LED's you would have to replace the fans, which is what I originally intended.  However, after seeing the case, I decided to leave it alone.  It is not tacky looking and I kind of like it the way it is.   I am not a kid.   I am 58 years old.

I own the 900 and the lights are not too bright. You might be able to remove them, or tape over them to block the light.

I agree. I own the Antec p180 silver one which looks identical to the black p182 and trust me this case has great air flow and looks great aswell. No fancy lights. Check out the specs on the antec website: http://www.antec.com/uk/productDet [...] odID=81800

My system is so close to silent. You wouldn't even notice there was a pc in the room.

You do know that just about any computer case you buy the fans can be removed right? Buy the case, buy non-led fans, and you're good to go.

Also, should your girlfriend really be telling you what you can and cannot buy? I'm sure she's bought tons of crap you don't want in the house either. If she owns the house then maybe that's ok. But honestly, if i had a girlfriend who was telling me i couldn't buy something because of the color of a fan, she'd be outta my house so fast.

Argh, come on guys!!

1. I don't want LED fans (and my girlfriend hates them). But this thread isn't about my girlfriend...

2. I know I can remove the fan and buy new ones but that's going to cost $40 or so for good fans. My budget for a case isn't that much..

3. The Antec 900 this weekend is just about half the price of a P180 which i'd definitely get instead of replacing fans on a 900..

So cutting a long story short,

Is it possible to remove , break or tape over LEDs in an LED fan (like those in the Antec 900)?

I understand nerdic says it might be possible to tape over them and that's useful..  is it an isolated LED in a fan that can be taped over?  Or it is embedded in a difuse way?

Has anyone managed to remove an LED to change the color for example?

Just slap that women up and be like, "I'll use mah neon pimp lights in the house if I want to, now make me a sandwich!"

Seriously though, some opaque tape, such as black electrical tape will surely do the trick.

That is funny, I just ordered mine with the free shipping...can't beat free shipping on a case.  Tonight I can take a look at the fans and see if tape would work.

It also comes with 3 extra 120mm fans...maybe those don't have LEDs?  I will check on that too.  Get back with you late tonight.

Edit: OK, so within the frame that holds the smaller fans, there are 3 LEDs that point inward towards the fan.  They are recessed into the plastic and small so I bet you could tape over them pretty easily.  The bad news is that it looks like some of the LED light will shine through the outside of the frame too but not too much.  The wiring that goes to the LEDs however, is exposed on the outer frame of the fans.  I bet you could also just snip them and not have to worry about tape flying off when they are running and stray light coming out.  All of the 120mm fans are like this.

The large 200mm fan in the top has an Antec decal in the center of the fan that looks like it lights up as well.  Sorry, don't have it running yet to tell for sure but I bet it does.  Hope this helps.

^+1. Black tape will work fine. or you can de-solder the LED power connectors.

Thanks guys!! That was very helpful (you know who I am talking about)! The 900 is indeed a great deal this weekend at the egg.. free shipping and a large MIR, bringing it down to  $80?

Most cheaper $50 cases come up to $65 - 70 at least after shipping..

good luck.depend how the fans are build.it could be easy or hard. because there are some fans(cheap once) that got a ribbon of LED on the outside and most are embedded in the housing.
