Has anyone seen this behaviour and do you know of a patch?

I recently had to rebuild my XP system, including a reinstall of my
handheld software and McAfee VS7 Home. This time around McAfee's
default install turned on handheld scanning, which I didn't know until
I attempted to do a hotsync.

Yesterday I synched my Treo and McAfee's PDA scan kicked off before
any data synched. I thought "Cool!" and watched to be sure it
actually worked.

And my system cratered with a hard crash.

I started poking around and determined that McAfee's PDA scan was
enabled with defaults of 1) scan apps 2) scan data 3) scan BEFORE
synch and 4) scan AFTER synch. Talk about overkill.

Turned off "scan data" and "scan after sync" and tried again.

Hard system crash.

So I invoked McAfee's online "support chat" (which is a joke). After
numerous, progressively simpler explanations by me of the problem, the
"technician" on the other end told me the only way to scan the PDA is
to disable the desktop scan. Doing so actually causes hotsynch to
fail out of the gate but does not produce a system crash. I was then
told to turn off PDA scan and just live with it. After many attempts
to turn off all features on the PDA scan config dialog and being
nagged by McAfee to turn on SOMETHING I was finally able to disable
PDA scanning and hotsync successfully.

When I asked for a patch for this problem I was told that PDA scanning
is not supported in my version of McAfee VS7 Home. I asked WHY NOT,
when the option is there and is enabled on install? This question
engendered much confusion, several "may I please put you on hold"
instances, and ultimately an email from a person with an unlikely name
offering me a download of the same version of McAfee VS7 Home that I
already have.

I have attempted to escalate this problem in an effort to obtain a
TRUE patch but there's no telling if or when a patch will be released.

Turn it off. There is not need whatsoever for virus scanning of a Palm.
There are no Palm viruses currently in the wild, and Windows viruses will
not affect a Palm. You're wasting time and money.

No need for a patch, since there is no need for the original. McAfee is
just trying to scare people, as usual, in order to sell more software.
Palm virus-scanners are worthless.
