I am running Vista on a AMD Athlon 64 5000+ Black Edition @3.1 Ghz @1.4V with Arctic Freezer 64 Pro Cooler

In desktop mode i have around 40 degrees C but when I open an application the temperature jumps to 50 and stays around 50 while loading, then falls back to 40. (even if it takes less then a second for the application to load it still jumps to around 50 then back to 40 )

Is this normal? Is it even possible for the CPU to heat up and cool down so fast?

I am Using Everest Ultimate Edition 4.50 to get the sensor readings

I know it is under load... but still I thought loading an application is isn't that CPU intensive to heat up the processor so much.

the temp is alright.when i priming a Q6600 they go upto 70C.at the moment i press STOP the temp INSTANTLY drop to 56C and cools down in a mins or so. so that instant drop in temp is normal.

Thanks everyone for your quick reply.
Knowing how WDM works I'm thinking Vista has to do even more work than XP since it needs to set up video memory as well for the lunching application (though i don't know how much of an impact that would be... just a thought)
Thanks again.
