Connection between cpu and memory.

How do they relate to one another? I heard if you overclock your cpu you have to overclock your ram. Can someone please explain this? note - I am very new to overclocking

Should give you a basic idea between the relationship of the cpu and memory, for Intel setups. AMD is also similar in a way.
