About a year ago I bought a Pentium D 915 @ 2.8ghz along with an AsRock 4CoreDual-VSTA Motherboard. I bought these parts b/c at the time i was still using my older components from my Athlon XP 2500+ (barton) system. They were my 2x 512mb XMS DDR 400 memory and a 9600XT (radeon). A few months after I bought an 8600GT 256mb and 2x 1GB DDR2 667 XMS2 memory.

anyways... I've since overclocked my Pent. D. to 3.5 Ghz! I've been able to set it higher, but 3.51 seems most stable and i'm still using stock cooling.



So... would this be considered a good overclock, and what newer cpu would the performance of this be close to?

Well you see, if you're comparing it to the 45nm like the E8400...my estimate would be around 1GHz. The newer architecture is so much more efficient per clock that it wipes away any Pentium. I think it was 4 times more efficient per clock, but I forgot.

That's a decent overclock for that chip.

On average, it would be comparable to an e2160.

Meh, you have not seen my older desktop. That screen was pretty organized. Have all the stuff I need.

I had the D915 before my E4500, With a good cooler i got mine up to 4Ghz with vcore at 1.3750 in bios, You could easily get 3.6Ghz stable at 1.3375 vcore as long as your cooler is good, The chip runs damn hot.
