Wow with a 3800 duel core processor 1gb ddr ram and a 6600gt i get a score of 1007
I will update my new score when my 8800 gt arrives on tuesday, until then, is this a reasonable score for this setup or is it really low? my average fps was 0.4 on the red valley and 2. something all the rest...

3DMark06 puts a test on the entire system, and for that reason is a good tool for testing everything. 3DMark06 should be used only as a comparitive tool, so that you can measure changes that you make to your computer. It does not reflect real game performance.
Your 6600GT is an obvious problem area. Its rather old and can't run all the areas of the 3DMark graphics test. You could also stand to have another gig of ram. Red Valley puts an extreme load on the CPU and frame rates less then 1 or 2 are usual. Though your score is low, it actually is reasonable considering the hardware that you have. The 8800GT should dramatically increase your score. If you haven't overclocked your CPU, you might do that as well.

who cares, does it play your game fine ? thats all that should matter.
NOOO 3Dmarks are all that matter! if you can raise your score over your friends by just one point, you earn bragging rights FOREVER!!! Games are dumb and outdated, no one plays them anymore anyway.

Which brings me to my next point. DON'T SMOKE CRACK.
In regards to 3dMark06, it is a valuable tool that can be used to identify if a system has any bottlenecks, despite similar hardware configs. So yes, YOU should care about 3DMarks....
Yeah 3D mark is a valuable tool, but it's not everything. If it was everything, then everyone would still be going gaga over the 2900XT instead of the 8800GT. The 2900XT is better in 3DM than it is in real world games, where as the 8800GT does well in 3DM but beats the 2900XT.

It's handy for benchmarking changes that you make in your own system. For example, at around 3.3 GHz, I become GPU limited. For gaming, I get little benefit from pushing my OC to 3.6 GHz.
So yes, you should care about 3DMarks. But you shouldn't obsess about them.

Again, not entirely the subject of the original post...the OP wanted to know if his score was reasonable for his CURRENT setup; implying that he wanted to know if his computer is performing optimally.
@ OP: I really can't say much in regards to your score. Repost when you get the 8800GT because my ILF90 with a T7300, 4Gb of RAM, and an 8600M GT scores roughly around 3000 when the GPU is OC'd. You should, of course, score much higher than that...
The GPU plays a big part in that score. My 3800x2 @ 2.4ghz. witha 7900GT scored 5300+. After the GT was replaced with a 7300LE, my score dropped to 800ish. Even an OC Quad only gets 2-3 fps in the cpu test so don't let a low score their worry you. Check your scores (SM 2.0, SM3.0 and CPU) against TH's CPU and VGA chart scores to see how your components are working.
my sm2 and sm 3 scores are lower than a 8800 gt oc could that be a sign my cpu is bottlenecking?
Its more likely that the 8800GT OC is running a faster clock, so therefore processes information faster and gets a higher score. If you overclocked your 8800 GTS 512, you should be able to raise your scores. Keep in mind that sm2 and sm3 are graphics card scores, not cpu scores.
