Best antivirus software for windows xp

Try Avira antivir
It's free and it's pretty good overall

Reasons why you can't install one can be

-You have an antivirus that is blocking installation of other antivirus software (unlightly)
-You are already infected, your computer runs weirdly and refuses to install an antivirus

So, do you have weird issues ? popups, that red little windows security center notification in the bottom right poping, errors, freezing....

What you can try is, reboot your computer,
Press F8 once every second before the windows XP logo (if you see the xp logo, you are too late)

Pressing F8 will make Windows Ask you how you want to start

Start Windows XP With Networking.

If you are connected to a router, you should have internet with that option.

Add remove software, remove whatever antivirus you have (Specially if it's symantec or norton internet security)

Go to the link above, download Avira Antivir and update

Go to google, search malwarebyte, download, install and update.

Scan your pc once with avira, scan it then with malwarebytes.

Should clean the pc if it has weird issues that is.

i would say get commodo internet security, which is a firewall and anti virus and also get avast as both of them work together wonderfullly. and just in case you can get spybot to scan every now and then for spyware and other problems. At least thats what i use and it works really good all together.

I agree with c00lit.

You probably already have some sort of malware that is blocking you from installing an AV.

Boot into safe mode with networking (tap F8 on startup). Download, install, and update malwarebytes. Do a full system scan.

Then, I would recommend downloading either Avast or Avira.

I think that at the moment Kaspersky is the best antivirus available. It is a bit more expensive than the others but in my opinion its well worth it. They have the highest detection rate of all the top antivirus programs and has been recommended by a lot of PC Techs that i've talked to. BitDefender is also good and a lot cheaper so may be a better option for you. BitDefender is also a lot lighter than Kasperksy and so uses less resources. If you have a lower end machine go for Vipre as it has the lowest resource usage of any of the popular antivirus programs and is still a great product. In my opinion avoid Mcafee (Huge resource hog) and Norton.

If your looking for free antivirus then AVG is by far the best!

Theres some great antivirus comparison and review websites on the net. Take a look at these three:

You are right "waller540" Kaspersky is the best antivirus program , however it in not freeware , I recommend many times to my clients (I am computer technician and programmer) , I recommend them: if they don't want to buy an antivirus or maybe can't afford one it is a very good option to use AVG free, (Why AVG Free) because it is the 5 Years most downloaded antivirus program at CNET and it is number one antivirus on free antivirus reviews website, I use it for long time and it has never create me problems , however I also recommend to combine this antivirus program with the best free firewall witch is Zone Alarm Free, you will never have any security problems with those who programs , however don't press "Allow" to all warnings that Zone Alarm will show to you. 😗

If blame exists, it goes on our shoulders brother. That's the price we pay for a nice warm place to stick our floppies... 😱

Comodo is very good once you get it set up right. otherwise it will not let one packet even think about hitting the line without asking 5 ways from Sunday (Only once though if you check he repeat program box). Is that annoying, hell ya. Is it going to save your rear end down the road when you get a pop up you don't recognize? It already has saved mine, several times. I still use a combo of zonealarm (yes the new ver but all is off but firewall) and avast (with the firewall feature turned off, hmm i see a pattern). Also I through in occasional of Online Armor instead of ZA. Go to a legit security testing site, or at least a site from your isp that tells you what your external true ip addy is. Then change settings and or try different things until cannot read your external address without going backwards.
