Plugging 3pin CPU fan into a 4 pin slot, Help Please

I'm connecting my Zalmann 9700 to my ASUS P5E Mobo and I was wondering if this would cause any problems. The plugin on my mobo has a piece of plastic that forces you to plug the 3pin in a certain way, which leads me to believe it's made for this situation. If I need to clarify this anymore, please let me know, Thanks
