Is it possible that the firewire on my motherboard could have just broken?  
 
My Tyan K8WE was working fine with fire wire before but now it wont detect anything. Camcorders do not show up. Everything else on the computer works great. So this is very strange. In device manager there is no mention of any cameras hooked up. A scanner connected by USB 2 will show and all USBs show but not Firewire.  
 
What can i try?

I dont know if this has anything to do with it but the Other minor problems i am having include:
On boot up the computer sound is always in mute mode? No matter what when restarted it returns to mute.  
The desktop picture background will not remain. On Restart it returns to no picture mode.
But these are minor problems that don't cause any performance issues. The computer works, i just cant capture anything over firewire!

Have you tried reinstalling the firewire drivers?

IS there such a device that can Test a firewire conection? That can test if the port on my motherboard is working?
