It's probably your mobo. What are your specs? What OS and service pack are you running?

If you are using Windows XP, you need to install at least SP2 to use partitions larger than 127GB.
Some older controlers also have this limitation, you might need to update the BIOS/Firmware +driver.
You might want to make sure you use NTFS and not FAT32.

Next time please include:
OS version (including SPs)
Motherboard model or computer model for laptops and OEMs
and the actual HD model, not just the mention of a 3rd tier manufacturer.

I'm using Windows Xp Pro Sp2
QDI Platinix 2D/533 Mobo
Partitions are NTFS.
Maybe I should update my bios
My PC is little old.
OK thanks

I see that revisions after V16 support "large drives" for the recovery tool but there is no risk in updating to the last revision... they must have got it right it hasn't changed since 2003!

Ok, this is old technology... AND uncommon brand names... cool. Anything else outstanding about this PC?

Flashing the BIOS will probably fix it. Just be sure the BIOS is the correct one before you flash.

You could also buy a PCI IDE controller card.

I don't get it... what has my username got to do with it?

I'll try flashing the BIOS and I'll see if that will fix the problem
Thanks everyone for the help.
