Hi guys,

I got this error code after doing the large fft test on prime after 6 hrs

FATAL ERROR: Final result was 282047A2, expected: 1A922371.
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

the funny thing is, that on the blend test i had no failures for 25 hrs. can some one enlighten me on this please. thanks

Specs.
dell xps 630
e8400 oc. 3.6
1.25 vcore

hehe, one of the problems with Large FFTs is that it doesn't work! Err... you can't tell why it doesnt work! But if you have blended for Many an hour without a problem, Then yer RAM is okay, time for SMALL ffts on all cores!

Thats what you use to test CPU operational stability. Large FFTs is quite useless. Give small ffts a try and see what happens! It may BSOD pretty fast if you havent used it before!

*Turns on blender*

Okay, I blended my system...

Joking aside, blend test to check for ram stability is far more important than small FFTs. Run for at a recommended 24hours.

update:#2

i bumped up my vcore to 1.3 and oc to 3.8 gonna run prime 95 again to see if its stable.I'm still running cool at 52c max from real temp, running 60% on my fan speed on cpu cooler. if you wanna se my cpu cooler see link below. This is what came with my xps 630. i added a 92mm fan on the back vent to suck the air out of the case.

I think i'll stop at 4.0 ghz, if i pass all my test at 3.8. But then again this is kinda addicting. hehe. i just hope i dont fry my comp i've only had for a month. Thanks again for the tips for those who replied.

update 3:

Passed 3.8 ghz with flying colors with prime 28hrs. core temp didnt even hit 52. I can probably push it up a little more, more, more, more!!!! No really.... Do you think i should stick to 3.8 or go for 4.0?

I only have a 4 gigs of samsung 800mhz ram.And its not even low latency. I think at this point my comp is only as fast as my ram let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Looks great! Have you identified that cooler? Looks like a direct touch of some sort! Looks like it has 4 pipes too, thats the one xiggy messed up. Their 1283 is great! Trip DT heat pipes, but their quad 1284 appears to not work well at all!

I am interested to know who got it right, hehe.

As far as your RAM goes, I guess it depends on the FSB speed you are using for your overclock. Obviously you need to have at least 425 FSB to worry about it. And then your board needs to support over 500 FSB to worry about upgrading to 1066! (P5Q series gets 550+)

i'm still trying to find out what cooler that is. i'll call dell and ask them. so far runs pretty cool at 3.8ghz at 1.3 vcore. runs cool at fan speed at 60% and my front fans running at 20%. I tried out my Age of conan. and it seems to run pretty cool. i'll update you guys when i find out what that thing is.

Age of Conan will push a system if you have all the bells and whistles turned on for sure. Just don't judge your "System Stability" by crashes in that game. The Software is pretty horrid with memory leaks and other random "blows up for no reason" issues.

Good call on the small tfft's I forgot that last time and I think I had issues with them.

Your game comment reminds me something.
Sometimes just playing the game you play the most and running your apps for a few days can substitute for prime 95 compliance. Unless of course your using your OC to brag etc which most do :sol:

I have to disagree...

Your system may appear stable for a while and boom!! Unknown problems. The reason is, over the period of a month or two or three, sometimes longer, your system is slowly getting corrupt files do to system instability. You then start to run spyware, anti virus, and the kitchen sink, trying to solve your weird P.C. issues. Of course no infections were found and you end up reformating.

So what is your advice? Even after prime 95 testing that my comp will end up like what you just said?. If you have a better way please let us know. Thanks.

Sorry if you missunderstood my post. It was in response to games and every day apps being a good alternative to prime testing.

You went above and beyond in my opinion. I never stress test for more than 16 hours. I'm pretty sure your all set.
