I want to buy a new graphic card and I have a hard time in choosing between EVGA 512-P2-N756-TR and EVGA 256-P2-N753-TR. Both are Nvidia GeForce 8600GT cards and based on my research, they are nearly identical.

The only difference is that EVGA 512-P2-N756-TR has 512MB of GDDR2 with memory clock @ 800MHz and EVGA 256-P2-N753-TR has 256MB of GDDR3 with memory clock @ 1400 MHz.

So, what do you think? Which card will be better? 256MB of extra memory but at a lower memory clock speed or higher memory clock speed with 256MB less memory?

I have AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+ @2.7GHz and 2GB of RAM, and I mainly use the machine to run Windows Vista Ultimate and World of Warcraft, thanks!

GDDR3 will outperform GDDR2 no matter how much memory is installed. The gain from larger memory comes at higher resolution which the 8600GT is not powerful enough for anyway.

Ok thanks for the replies. I happen to be running Windows and World of Warcraft in 1680*1050 resolution. In this case, will the 512MB DDR2 help me more or is the 256MB DDR3 still superior?

Not on World of Warcraft... it doesnt require a nice video card with lots of memory (low texture anyway) to run maxed out

You should check the Ati 2600XT too... its faster than 8600 GT for about the same price

^Agreed. Also consider OCing either one to gain more performance.
