cpu temp going up after applying arctic silver 5

Well I just built my second computer about 5 days ago and put too much arctic silver on. The temps were staying around 59 under load (prime 95). So I took the processor out and re-did it like their website says and now the temps are 70 not under load and not overclocked. Will it cool down dramatically? or did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance.

what cpu are yo using and did you make sure to thoroughly remove all old thermal paste. It could also be that the heatsink is not seated properly or it is not making even contact with the cpu. I know temps cool a little but later on with AS5 but they are still far too high. I would try it all again if I was you.

It is the E6750 with the msi p6n sli-fi motherboard. I just reset system defaults and now it is down to 55 at idle is that ok for idle?

^Agreed. It could also be that you applied too much AS5. You need VERY little AS5. The way the website says uses too much AS5 imo, just use the size of like 2 grains of rice and spread it using a credit card or the like.

So what is the non load temp that I am shooting for? I have a coolermaster hyper tx2 for the cpu cooler.

ok thanks guys it looks like that fixed it. It is now at 34 no load and it is load testing right now. What is the best test on prime 95?

1. one with no errors no matter how long you run any of the three settings. I start with mixed, but do all three.

2. What does 1mm mean?

That is the thickness of the arctic silver. Is core temp reliable or does it need to be calibrated?
