I have an 18 gb Cheetah SCSI 160. 3 times in the last month it has gone "off-line" with a temperature of 255C. The drive is NOT hot to the touch. each occurrance wait 5 minutes and turn the PC on and everything is fine. run segate diagnostics and it is fault free. i do note the temperature per the seagate software varies from 14 to 35 during the day, but there is no logic for the temp variation - i can use the drive and it reads 14, while i let it idle and it reads 35.

i am presuming the drive is starting to fail. Has anyone seen similar problems? I am running XP Pro SP3, if that has any bearing on things. the SP3 update has caused problems with older software that ran well under SP2.

Thanks for any comments

No idea. Try contacting Seagate.
